It’s been a positive season for MM, but Hutson has it in the bag.
Celebrini will take votes from MM - Hesh_
This is the truth unfortunately. I do think that both Celebrini and MM are better players then Hutson.

Hutson ranks 5th in scoring at his position in the NHL. Celebrini ranks 53rd at his and Michkov 17th in his position. Hutson is very likely to win the Calder and he's going to get some Norris trophy votes.

He's having a really great rookie season...he's fun to watch.
I thought going into last night that if Mitchkov could pot another couple goals and get within striking distance of 30, that would be his only chance. I don't see how the voters could keep a rookie hitting the 30 goal mark from winning. I've heard a lot just look at stat lines |

The further down they drop, the better projection to grab my boy McQueen!
BUT, I gotta be honest, if they drop to like 9....I would love to take a shot at Radim Mrkta. 2027 Flyers gotta be HUGE |

He will get Norris votes only because that has become an offensive award. He is not a great defender. He is a rookie so that could change. It also helps him that he plays in Montreal.
5 on 5 points has to be factored into the equation. If MM lights it up on Saturday and somehow gets to 30 goals before the end of the year I think he gets it.

All but five of Hutson's points are assists (29-secondary). He's a great player, no doubt, but him winning the calder is far from a sure thing. I think Matvei keeps putting up points and takes it from him, personally. The kid is on a role with Torts gone. |

He'll get Norris trophy votes because he is deserving of them and is one of the best defenseman in the league. Hutson is pretty close to a lock for the Calder. You use the adjective great when talking about Hutson defensively. That is unreasonable. Reality is that for a high minute defenseman on a poor overall defensive team in Montreal. Hutson's defensive metrics are very solid. Hutson ranks 12th among all NHL defenseman in EV points.

Very unlikely. Hutson has 54 assists. 23 are primary and 31 secondary. The impact that Hutson has had on his team is a big reason why Montreal has a legit shot at making the playoffs. |

I wouldn't say it's very unlikely. What you say about Hutson is true, but he didn't have to contend with a coach like Torts that scratches and benches him for not playing the "right way". I'm certainly not saying Matvei is a lock to win it, but saying it's very unlikely is a stretch, and you know it.

It is unlikely and that is not a stretch at all. Hutson is the clear cut favorite. Celebrinni is probably going to finish 2nd. Michkov 3rd. Tortorella is going to be a non factor in the voting. Michkov is averaging the 3rd most ice time.per game among rookie forward
s and has played the 2nd most total minutes among all rookie forwards in the league. That's what I know. |

Not sure how true any of this is- just glad the circus is over. I do not want a HC who has a catch phrase- "Well, its Torts being Torts." No way I want Shaw taking over HC, even if the team wins every game. That would be a bad idea. |

We’ve been beaten down by the drudgery of this organization for so long now, it doesn’t make sense to expend too much energy on them. - Sublime55
True. I'm trying hard to just enjoy the games that are left and not fixate on their draft position. This team is bad, but Buffalo and Nashville are even worse. They were bound to win some of these games, and will win more before the season ends, with or without the coaching change. I don't think the geniuses in charge wanted to fire Tortorella. Before the firing my suspicion was that they wanted to continue with him next season too. I'm guessing they were trying to work it out with the coach, but had a difference of opinion as to how the team should proceed. I think Torts was fed up and had a tantrum; making it impossible for them to keep him around. |

I completely believe it. The rest of team management should be receiving repercussions over it as they enabled and fostered the environment. Kudos for York being a stand up kid and taking one for the team. I want no parts of Shaw either. He had a chance to make it right and he blew it. Plus. I think he is a very overrated assistant coach. I want a complete new philosophy of play and wholesale changes. I want all of coaching and management changed. No chance of the latter happening.

I don't understand the criticism of York in this situation. A grumpy old man yelling at him and making it personal, that is not coaching. A HC without self restraint is not a leader. As an assistant Shaw helped foster that environment, and he needs to leave. Briere and Jones will survive, but I believe if the next HC fails within three seasons, then everyone goes, IMO. I am curious what direction they go because by Briere's public comments, the firing of Torts was rock bottom. Only way is up and not falling further is the narrative.

They've been at rock bottom and will remain at rock bottom until this franchise completely changes it's philosophy and ideology. Only thing that can change that is a lot more good luck like they experienced with Michkov. I know Tortorella was a bad hire before he coached a single game for the Flyers

They haven't reached rock bottom in my opinion. Rock bottom is 10 years from now. When they basically have the same team they had from 2012-2020. One star with some good players around him that made the playoffs off and on for a few years. Then they realize they have wasted another decade due to incompetence.

A competent front office most likely puts a stop to this before it gets to that point which is why you end up with a color analyst POHO in charge of nothing and another ex-player flyer GM with no experience and no other options as co-conspirators.
Torts ran roughshod over the org for 3 years (and no the fact he finally got fired doesn't change that). The more that comes out it's obvious that this had the potential to be a PR disaster and that's the one thing comcast won't stand for. Competency? they DGAF as long as people pay for tickets.
Every time something like this happens they just fire one guy in the FO and leave the everyone else in place which changes very little. Torts was FO in all but title.
Unless there's more to come out, it looks like York was benched for embarrassing Shaw's buddy which is yet another black eye for the Flyers who have a face full of bruises. |

Most times, it is better to be lucky then good. We'll see how lucky this regime gets. G had a terrific career as a Flyer. Four seasons with points above 80. As a comparison, Kucherov already has 7 seasons over 80 points. My point is if Michkov is closer to Kucherov level production, the supporting cast will not need to be as good to be competitive (please note, I did not write Stanley Cup contender) and overall lead to a better decade.

You know what, you're right. There is no doubt that it is going to be a continuing cycle of the same nonsense. Over and over and over. If they were smart, which they're not. They would realize that getting Michkov is the beginning of a rebuild. Not an acceleration.

Completely agree. Hilferty, Jones and Briere were completely complicit in this. They knew what environment was being built by Tortorella and they hitched their wagon to him. Hilferty anointing him their "spiritual advisor". They condoned it by their actions. What a disgrace and cesspool of incompetence. If Shaw had any sense or balls, he would have put a stop to it. If I was him, I would've said I'll stay on as interim but I'm not benching York. If you don't like it, you can fire me also
