The Flyers will be picking in the top 10 next year no matter what Briere does. There isn’t really a goaltender available to fix the situation. Maybe they go after Gibson but he is likely to miss time with injury. I could actually see a bunch of injuries next year since they have been relatively injury free the past two years. Regardless another top pick is necessary as it appears the top of next years draft has more star talent than this years where 3-9 seem all relatively the same.

I disagree that top 10 is already baked in. Of course, this is dependent on health of the team, which could dramatically impact performance. The Flyers are at the bottom in both PP % and Save %. A new HC will certainly be looking to improve those areas. To date, Ersson has played 45 games with an .881 save %. Hypothetically, if the Flyers acquire a Gibson or Demko and they only play 35 games next season but have a .900 save % which is below their career average this will elevate them in the standings dependent on team health (if TK, Michkov, Sanheim miss significant time-team is screwed no doubt). For the better part of the last 2 seasons, the Flyers have a PP which has given them nothing, and goaltending which has been the absolute worst since Hart was removed.
I agree long-term it is best not to make the playoffs. The pundits in the '17 draft there was a clear top 2 then a drop off-did not work out too well. I do not place much value into draft depth predictions considering this draft last year at this time was deemed much deeper. That has changed. This year the narrative is 1 stud at the top of the draft followed by 5 really good prospects and then the rest. My basic point is I just try not to get swayed about predictions about draft prospect pool depth. However, I would hope the Flyers finish near the bottom 5 to have a better then very, very slim chance to win the lottery for McKenna.
