Or you blow coverages. From last game:

“Hoggy missed his man, poor guy,” Tocchet said. “He's not out (in OT often) and he missed his man. That's it. Overtimes are about individual mistakes. So that's what happens. He's playing good hockey, and he missed his man. You move on.”

Hoglander had 24 last season and has 8 this season, -16 goals.

Imo, some players had career years in 2023-24, which has caused many to use this 1 season as the benchmark for players goal output.
The team has also allowed about 20 more goals against, this season, compared to the anomaly season of 2023-24.

Some footage of Tocchet derailing Hogs career even though we had spots in the top 6 all year to move him up.

EP last year: 34 goals
EP this year: 15 goals (19 fewer goals)

BB last year: 40 goals
BB this year: 25 goals (15 fewer goals)

JTM last year: 37 goals
JTM this year: 9 in 40 games/about 18 over the course of the season (19 fewer goals)

19 + 15 + 19 = 53 goals

Seems like those three can account for about 50 goals! Who would have thought?

Nice math skills it won’t register on him. Especially since everything else was stellar & only lack of scoring submarined the season. Cannot fix stupid

Truly exhausting lol. The topic was 'home ice cost us the PO's'...but again you just don't get basic sh!t.

I guess games played doesn't mean much considering Pettersson only played 64 games Brock 73 and Miller 40 before he was gone. Again you can't hang this on 'home ice or three players' as scoring was already way down with three of them healthy and in the lineup.

What do you think Hoglander is worth in a trade? Cause it looks like he may be on the way out.

Apparently both him and Tolopilo will

With a pair of emergency recalls to cover off Tyler Myers and Thatcher Demko not ready for final two games of the season, the Canucks are giving defenceman Kirill Kudryavtsev and goaltender Nikita Tolopilo a night to remember.

For Kudryavtsev, the opportunity is a reward for an impressive AHL season in Abbotsford. The seventh-round selection the 2022 NHL Draft could be a diamond in the rough. The 21-year-old Yaroslavl, Russia native has 26 points (5-21) in 63 games with an Abbotsford club that rolled off a 13-game win streak and is playoff bound.

“Kirill has had a really good year and opened a lot of eyes,” Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said following the morning game-day skate. “It’s fun to see these guys in an NHL environment.”

For now, being in ‘The Show’ is something special. And there’s a comfort factor for Kudryavtsev with several AHL players on the current roster.

“It means a lot,” he said. “Really excited. It doesn’t mean a lot in standings for the NHL team, but it means a lot for me and Tolopilo. I’ll try to bring my best. There’s so many guys here from Abbotsford, there’s not as much pressure because you know they’re going to help you.

“I really didn’t have any lot of expectations for my rookie (AHL) season. I just wanted to prove I’m worth something. For me, it’s being consistent and not making many mistakes. You’re never as good as you think you are. That’s my mentality. I have something to prove every day.”

Probably not much right now. The Canucks would be better off trying to build him back up into an everyday player. Only caveat I could see is if they need to free up space for a big UFA signing.

There needs to be significant changes this off season. Starting with getting bigger, more aggressive forwards.

Trade Pouty.

Home losses did cost us the PO’s that’s what the 3rd worst home record does.

Once again all my contributing factors on a poor season & no PO’s I don’t include injuries as an excuse.

Yeah you are right. Scoring isn't an issue whether at home or on the road...

- LordHumungous

Scoring wasn’t the biggest problem.
Closing out games was.
PP could of won more games.
Early D made us chase games more.
Top 6 scoring cost us.

Idk why you claim a singular factor when obvious to all there was more wrong about their play than scoring.

Don't think they're going to trade Petey. He'll come back properly next year.

Chytil was practicing yesterday. A good sign for his progression through protocol... should get a full summer in too.

Also going to be Demko's first summer in a while without a surgery.

They should have a much better start next season.

Cannot be worse than blowing the lead 1st game to the Flames. That was an omen for both teams season.

Next year is a fresh start & changes surely are coming. Nothing new there. Players need to go into the offseason pissed off & work hard on all facets. Find a consistent identity for sure.

Never ceases to amaze me how fans want protection for Hughes, yet they want to run back the same team, with Garland as the only legitimate tough guy.

If the story is true that they asked Pouty to spend more time in Vancouver over the summer, using the resources available to him to work on diet and conditioning (disgusting that one of the top payed players in the league needs to be told that), and he does as suggested, then I see him staying. If he goes back to Sweden, he will be traded.

Chytil is one hit away from his career being over, if it isn't already.

Demko is broken.

Boeser will be gone starting there.
Suter resigned who knows.
EP will get better & meaner.
Joshua should be healthier.
D improved from being bad.

Who do you suggest comes in & replaces those 50 goals & is big & tough? Still need more than those lost goals.

You are getting hung up on goals scored during an anomaly season. Currently, the Kings have scored 5 more goals than the Canucks, but about 50 less goals scored against.
I realize you get blinders on about offense, but you need to play good defense, to go along with being able to score a few goals. To suggest you need to replace e those 50 goals is a fools game.

Easy to say JR/PA don’t stand pat but there doesn’t look like a clear path to fix all that’s needed this offseason.

I expect they’ll rely on the better D corp & hope Demko is healthy. Probably means team scoring will be the big challenge

I have no blinders on it was a rebuttal to LH. I’m fine with the better D & build out from it. Long overdue. The PP was a concern for me preseason & followed into the season. The PK also but that made big strides.

Pretty sure the season before this one, Petey came in as one of the best testing/fitness players. From all accounts his knee rehab/ailment (if you believe it) impacted his summer training – which probably compounded with his attitude/interal pressure to leave him where he was this past September... which was not good enough, obvs.

Hopefully he take the bull by the horns this season and spends the majority of it here using the resources and training with Hughes. No problem with him going back to Sweden for a month to decompress and ground himself again. Hopefully that would help with the mental side of things for him at the moment. Start fresh in Vancouver in June.

Chytil... hopefully he gets some Crosby-level help and can clear that hurdle.

I think Demko will be fine, especially if him and Lanks split starts next season. Less wear and tear. Full off-season for him will be huge.

Sign more Swedish Meatballs!!

You can still have a .500 record at home and make the PO's dude. Yes agree it boiled down to a bunch of factors I just don't see how hanging this on JTM Petey and Brock and the 'home' record cuts it. We brought in 7-8 new players for Tocchet to work with and scoring was down 50 goals as it sits now from last season. It's a whole team thing not a 3 players and a home record lol. My take anyways.

Hogs would be sharp to get away from Tocchet.

Just realized something if the Flames and Habs make the PO's the Canucks will be the lone CDN team out of the PO's...

wowza...
