Also depends on refs if they want to put whistle out or call pretty much everything like in the last game. I did not like one soft call, but the rest calls was fine, Sens did it to themselves.

Oh yeah, there’s always questionable calls, I personally never like when folks use it as a conspiracy theory though (not saying you are). Both teams in a game get the same reffing and I’ll never see it any other way. Sometimes it swings one way, and sometimes it swings the other, and that’s all it is in my eyes.

Looking at the all time playoff points to laugh at how ridiculous McDavid is and saw the shame that is Crosby on this mid as (frank) Penguins team. He had a chance to catch 4th place if they even just went to the first round a few more times.

Even 99 changed teams, 87 should be thinking about doing the same himself.

I think that more often than not you're right in this for the regular season, but I also think that in the playoffs officiating does vary heavily. Coaches are gaming the refs game-to-game, the media is affecting pressures and creating narratives and the human aspect of refs are being influenced by all of these factors. It creates bias and affects the on-ice product.

I would be absolutely shocked to see the Leafs get an equitably called game tonight. I am pretty certain the Sens will get away with liberties that Leafs won't.

I understand this, and I also get the simple argument that since it’s the leafs, the most popular team in the league, it simply creates a tension within the human refs which effects their calls.

I guess I can see that happening to an extent but I also choose to believe that it’s a bit overblown. The Leafs get away with stuff too and the media and fans never seem to notice those moments, at least not as much.

The refs are more afraid of Berube than of the media or Greene.

It’s not like many of the calls were questionable. The majority of the calls were for cross checking, high sticking and roughing - not hooking calls that could go either way. The Sens also didn’t help themselves y trying to goon it up at the end. If they try to pull the same poop tonight they’re going to get burned.

That’s my point. I don’t question the refs. Never do. They’re on the ice with the players and I’m not, they’re seeing things better and as part of the game. Not replays or videos, etc and to me, that’s part of the game.

I question the refs all the time. In the playoffs especially, they decide to adopt a completely different set of rules and fail to apply them consistantly.

This being said, at the end of the day, it usually ends up being as terrible for both teams involved so I don't whine at the refs when my team loses.

That’s called “fans believing they know more than the refs” no?

lol as long as you don’t whine think as you want tbh, that’s all that really matters, fans and media can complain all they want but it doesn’t change the result of the game so all they’re doing is wasting their energy.

If the leafs get an unlucky loss I’ll probably just end up cooking something at which my gf will come out of the bedroom and say “poopty loss for leafs tonight huh? What are you making maybe I’ll want some?”

I think the fans know better than Chris Lee and Wes McCauley at least.

Well unfortunately, a missed call or a bad call can influence the result of the game. The only solace that remains is that the hockey gods even things up eventually.

The fans aren’t employed so it doesn’t matter what they believe.

At all.

I get your point but I also don’t care about people’s feelings lol

Once again, unless you’re the guy on the ice doing the job it’s not bad or missed imo.

It’s their vision that matters, no one else’s.

Wow, wow, wow. I know we're not all the pick of the litter on here, but some of us got our degrees at Herzing College and work a healthy shift at La Vie en Rose!

Their vision (or lack of) IS the only one that impacts the game, I agree.

Doesn't mean they're doing a good job, didn't miss anything or didn't make terrible calls.

But that's not gonna change anytime soon.

That exactly my point.

What they do is the only thing that matters, so why female dog about it? That would be about as effective as me starting a fight with my gf when she goes to reorganize the bathroom.

100%. I don't blame them, as I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but there is game management -- we know that, we've caught hot mics and go-pro convos -- it's to what degree does that happen, and is there consistency.

Anecdotally: I've been watching hockey for over 40 years and my comprehension of the rules and my ability to understand the calls on the ice have diminished over the years, where we've reached a point that I have no idea what goaltender interference is anymore, I don't understand crosschecking now apparently and what governs a suspension or the duration of a suspension.

I couldn't imagine being a new fan to the game and trying to understand wtf is going on out there, playoffs or regular season.
