a "good shot" is being in the final spot or within a point or two at this juncture. being virtually 6 pts back with 6 to play and 4 teams ahead of you is not "Good" it is delusional at best... the leafs have a delusional shot at the playoffs |

Boston has a game in hand, as does Buffalo, and you need an extra win (or OTL)to break the tiebreaker. |

Up until last season the last time Pittsburgh saw playoff action was in the 1999-2000 season, even with the lock out that is a pretty long time with no post season. And last year Ottawa handed Pittsburgh their ass...

lol do you not get it ? Beating Boston twice isn't going to even get you in. If Boston tanks, their points to go the Sabres (because they play them twice). You don't just have to win out, you have to win out without anyone else doing well. It's nearly impossible. And you can't allow 3 point games. |

look at bostons schedule.... they are not going to beat all those teams!
If you think about it all of are games are like playing at home, as there is ALWAYS a ton of fans who show up to Ottawa, Montreal, and especially Buffalo. The Leafs are in a good position and really i am not even slightly worried about that game in hand the Bruins have! They play New Jersey, Ottawa, and Buffalo in April to finish out the season. New Jersey and Ottawa are away and Buffalo is at home. while the sens and sabres games are back to back. And before that they play the leafs twice, and the sens and sabres again on back to back nights.
I am not worried about that right now. All the Leafs need to do now is focus on getting 4 points out of Boston these next 2 games. |

Well I sincerely doubt the leafs fans in the Bell Centre would outmatch the Habs fans in there... plus even then that's a little ridiculous, considering it doesn't matter whether all the fans in there are leafs fans they still don't get the last change. |

You managed to reply to my post without even addressing my post. Boston isn't who you have to worry about. It's the 3 teams between you and them. When the Bruins play their 2 vs Buffalo, you can't have any 3 point games. You effectively have no team you can cheer for. And the same is true of the games Washington and Florida play. They also play each other twice, so you can't get any scenario that helps you. The only reason you aren't already eliminated is this EXACT case:
1) you win out
2) In the head to heads like Buffalo-Boston and Washington-Florida, both of those series are regulation splits.
3) outside of those games, in their remaining 4-6 games, none of Boston/Buffalo/Washington/Florida pick up 10 points, or 5 wins.
Your odds are virtually nil.

that math is bad. if the leafs win them that would give them 12 pts, they are 4 back and 9pts away from elimination, if boston won 50%, they are done. there is a greater than 20% chance there before you take into account the other teams ahead of them with easier schedules.
besides, toronto hasnt had a streak longer than 4 games this year, they will lose at least 2 more, which means boston needs to win two and tie one to put them out |

there are more than 14% of scenerios that have the leafs missing if they go undefeated, unless you use redundant scenerios based on the 4 teams ahead of them |

yep, that site uses this criteria:
"I wrote a computer program that randomly generates results for each remaining game. Then it tallies each team's position and repeats, millions of times. When the simulation "plays" a game it assumes each team has an equal chance of winning, with no regard for record, injuries, matchups, or streaks. To help flush out each teams highest and lowest possible seeds, I force them to win or lose all their remaining games for 1000 of the simulation runs. Here is an interactive chart that gives you a feel for how playing the season 10 million times sheds light on the possible finishing scenarios."
this isnt based on statistical facts, but rather an asumption based on a virtual simulation.

Dude........their odds are 4.5%............it's right at the top of the page. You also have to look at the teams ahead of them, on the same site, and when you combine all the odds.........the leafs come out at 4.5%.
It's not that complicated. - Doppleganger
I know, I was basing that off the assumption that they won the rest of their games... not that I think that'll happen... I did make that clear, didn't I? |

I'm so sorry to hear that... hopefully they find a cure for whatever terminal disease you have so that you can live to see the Leafs hoist the cup |

.3% chance at making the playoffs now...and I'm pretty sure a regulation loss means we're officially eliminated as we'd only be able to get 8 points and both the Flyers and Bruins would have 88 pts with 39 wins (the most we'd be able to get) and odds are they have other tie breakers...and even if they don't they would just need to go 0-4-1 to get beyond the reach of the Leafs. |
