he had bunted just to move the runner over but it was such a perfect bunt that even on stubby little legs with catcher's knees, he got a single out of it.

no crazy metrics. just statistically over time, bunting hurts more than it helps. makes sense considering there's no clock in baseball which means it's the job of pitching/defense to get outs. why give them up? it's punting in the red zone.

with a pitcher? fine. whatever. but it urges me to kill whenever a manager calls for any relatively decent hitter to bunt. when you bunt, you're giving up an out like 90% of the time. with good hitters, there's like a 35% chance something even better happens and you don't make an out.
