So if we allow one less shot per 10 minute span we'll be that much better?

Keeping shots down, and scoring chances also is something that they've been able to do so far, compared to last season, according to Paul MacLean..................Oh wait, he's not telling the truth when interviewed by the media.

It's a work in progress, even though virtually the same number, the bulk this year are from outside the slot and fewer from quality scoring areas.

You can focus on one stat, or another, all you want, to somehow explain to yourself that the Senators have not improved, as a team, over last year.

But there are a few stats that you continue to ignore, .547 P% last year vs .654 P% this year, which is good for third in the division so far.

After 13 games last season the Senators had 4 wins and 11 points, this season they have 7 wins and 17 points.................and are the only team in the NHL that has NOT lost a game in Regulation at home.

So you can point to shot per/game and somehow tell yourself the Sens are no better than last year.

But please explain why they have more points than past year at this time, more wins than last year at this time, have a higher P% than at this time last year, a higher PP% than last year and a higher PK% than last season.........and then you might be able to convince me too.

You sound exactly like leaf fans from the last few seasons.
The more shots from the outside. Less scoring chances talk is bad. It helps you ignore that the process is failing.

Sens are getting. 940 again. That's the difference. Post the sv% for the first 14 games

Can I just point one thing out? Right now, the Sens and the Leafs are both in the right place.

Well the Sens rookies stomped the Leafs in the rookie tournament so I guess the Leafs win last night makes it a tie now. We have to wait until late January for the tie breaker.

He is, and always has been, abysmal in his own end, despite how much Sens fans try to deny it. He’ll lead the league in goals against while on the ice (at even strength) again this year. Wait until Anderson stops playing over his ability. The goals against will skyrocket for the Sens.

I agree. His last two games (that I've watched) have been subpar.

Lehner was not up to his standard either.

Both teams have nearly the same record now .600 vs .607.

Ottawa is in tough now with the"west coast" road trip VS VAN, EDM & CAL, where they've struggled in the past.

Three points in three games would be a good road trip.

Stuart Percy is a rookie, and he looked better than Karlsson.

Dopps sad right, we've spent too much time looking at stats, and didn't take the time to watch the Sens and appreciate how truly awful he is at defense.

Here's the thing - amongst Sens fans, we'll talk about Karlsson's short-comings and jabber about how he has to play smarter, take a few less changes, just improve his fundamentals.

But if a LEAFS fan says anything about him, RAWR POUNCE OM NOM NOM.

We're strange people, and we need to be ok with that.

Karlsson strength is no secret, he puts up points and is always in the top two or three in points on the team for the past few seasons, and leads the team in points so far this season. The other side of the coin are his defensive short comings, that are there for all to see. He sits 6th among the teams' Dmen TOI when SH for a reason, just as Kessel does not kill penalties.

leaf fans point out his defensive liabilities, and conversely Sens fans point to Kessel's lack a defensive responsibility.

Point being that both these players are going to have high TOI numbers and both handle the puck a lot and will both have high GvA numbers.

Neither player is getting paid for their defensive skill sets, but are earning their paycheques for their offensive output.

If either can bring more to the "other side of the puck", then that's a bonus.

Defensive ability's not important when it comes to defensemen?

I think people just expect a defenseman to actually be able to play solid defense. A lack of defensive ability is less of an issue when it's a winger.

I do think Karlsson is a really good player but last night was an embarrassment. He has to play better than that.
