He just keeps stirring up controversial scenarios and comments regarding Matthews and Laine for no reason other than both envy and to cast clouds over leaf fans joy at something they've always wanted and finally got.

He wonders why we don't debate Laine and Matthews more, yet he sees no reason on debating the trades for older players and with big contracts.

His whole act is " The Sens are fine, will continue to be fine, have little issues to worry about, and are ready to contend" so let's just talk about all the negatives and possible disappointemen's about the Leafs.

Apparently we have "no stomach" for Matthews/Laine discussions but the lack of stomach regarding the Sens possible negatives on his part are forbidden from discussion and comments.

I believe they have only made playoffs once over a long period of time. But, unfortunately, sadly, even painfully, the only year they made the playoffs they met Boston in the first round and coughed up an incredible choke.

I have a theory, I believe the Boston choke changed Leaf fans. Leaf fans are knowledgable and passionate about hockey. But after the choke many became highly embittered, deeply wounded by the way the series was lost. It has left a bad taste in their mouth and they just want to win.

I have an example. I think Matthews was the right choice by the Leafs. Yet, I think Laine is probably a more talented force and will likely be the Calder winner. Purely from a hockey perspective this is fascinating stuff. But, Leaf fans have no stomach for the discussion. Perhaps, I am wrong. But, it appears to me that if Laine wins the Calder it will be taken personally, another Leaf loss. Logically, we understand this is really nonsensical. Many top drafted players did not win the Calder.

It is like the Boston series altered the psyche of many Leaf fans. They are not nearly as much fun and incredibly sensitive. A good young team playing competitive hockey should be enough to turn things around. I certainly hope to see some improvement in the Leafs play over last year. But, I also expect they will again be the long term beneficiary of another lottery draft pick.

What are these "possible negatives" that you are predicting for the Senators?

And why do you only focus on a players contract??? Why not the play on the ice? Each team has payroll that has a "floor" and a "ceiling" that they must spend, and if they decide to sign an UFA for X dollars, or trade for a player who makes X dollars, it really does not matter in the end, as the game are played on the ice.

Ottawa, or any team, acquires players that they want on their roster, and get rid of ones they don't. Fans can squabble about how much this gut, or that guy gets paid, but in the end, it's the play on the ice that matters. Is Hoffman going to score twice as many goals now that he's been given a much bigger pay cheque? I doubt it. So then in your world, should he get traded?

I don't understand why you whine about how much YOU would be paying, if you were attending a leaf game.

Bad and aging Goaltending. Horrid team defense. Lack of top end talent up front. Just to name a few things
.

Two words. Salary cap.

Play on the ice. Let's see. How about missing the playoffs and having the worst overall team defense in the league

I don't understand why you whine about how much YOU would be paying, if you were attending a leaf game.

I don't attend games. Regardless of team or sport. No interest. Im fine and prefer watching my sports on my outstanding home theatre system or the local pub. Never whined about it though. Feel free to post proof of it. Though you can't since I've never whined about it.

It seems that rule isnt applied evenly....

Do you really want to go there. Do you not remember when I stood up and said Brian Burke is a fraud and a liar and he is not going to build through the draft. Do you not remember my bitterly opposing the Kessel deal because of it breaking with the promise to build through the draft. There is a history and I have been entirely consistent. Sometimes you think that I am making negative comments directly about the Leafs. If you look closely most of my criticism has been towards the media that hype the old lies. I do get impatient with fans that buy into the lies but for the most part I have not been highly critical of Leaf fans. I like Prock, I am positive towards you, I think Systemfool has been very clever at times.

If you get frustrated with me, it is because of the truths that I speak. Saying that Matthews was the right choice for the Leafs but Laine will probably win the Calder is not a highly contentious statement. Are you upset because I said it? Or, are you upset because of most of what I say about the Leafs usualy turns out to come into being. I believe you were scornful when I suggested that Kessel was going to be traded.

Kind of humour we all appreciate.

Fans of the team with the worst record in the NHL show up and talk about other teams without regard for the speck in the eye of their own team. Perhaps Leaf fans would be wise to check the scoreboard and standings before launching into criticism of other teams. If the Leafs were a really awful team last year that would be one thing. But, it has been 10 years of failure and this year does not look any better.

If the Leafs are following the Oiler rebuild model (which I think they are). The Leafs are in the second year of the rebuild. Oilers are headed into year 7 without having made the playoffs and the Leafs don't have McDavid.

I understand the comment, it has some validity. Even before Brian Burke came on the scenes I begged and pleaded for the Leafs to follow a rebuild. Had the Leafs done something back then they might be a contender today.

I agree entirely with the Shanahan strategy. Less patient with media and some fans that want to pretend it is just a quick fix. This takes time.

Oilers and Coyotes get top marks over the past 5 years for their rebuilds. They still have not made playoffs.

Risk for Leafs is the media will become impatient and start grinding on the slow process of doing it right and want to see some deals to speed up rebuild. Fans will have to resist the pressure to act precipitously.

You understand the comment, but change the subject immediately and don't address the comment? You sure you understood?

Who cares what the media thinks? The media has always been moronic, it doesn't matter what they say. The leafs are going to do their thing, they aren't going to be influenced by the media.

See, that's the thing. When the Leafs had an organization that was consistently making ridiculous moves and had no future, I was suitably embarrassed and refrained from showing up to a fight unarmed.

That's the difference between you and I. I know (knew) when to keep my mouth shut before I embarrassed myself. You clearly don't.

That is a cop out. Right from the start everyone know the Kessel trade was just plain crazy. The exact opposite of everything that was needed to be done. So a whole bunch of fans rolled over and said they were happy with the trade. They "refrained," as you suggest, "from showing up."

These are the same fans who won't show up for a discussion on the draft or the Calder Cup. For the most part Leaf fans are great hockey fans. But these guys that take the word of MLSE on everything are not real hockey fans. They are merely cheerleaders jumping up and down on the sideline without any real serious understanding of the game and how it is played.

You are aware they tanked as part of a rebuild, right? That finish was intentional. Unlike the Sens who were the worst defensively, took on a bad contract to desperately make the playoffs and still failed. But yes, the Oilers are the one and only example of a rebuilding team. Good troll champ. You must have thought of this in church.

No. These are the fans who watched the team fail miserably and repeatedly under Kessel and Phaneuf and demanded change. And got it. Why shouldn't fans be happy about not repeating failures of the past?
