It's quite meaningful, just like the RedBlacks Grey Cup win.

Golfing since 1967 I know you don't care about the Leafs perpetual record of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. I think the final game against Boston can be certified as the worst choke job by any team since they started lacing on the blades.

since 1967 eh?

pretty sure we've sent the sens to the golf course a few times in that time.

but no worries. the sens have ended a few leafs playoff runs too right?

oh wait... never mind.

I remember a season the sens finished first or second in the conference and we're swept by the leafs in the playoffs. I'd say that's a pretty massive choke job. And more relevant to a leafs vs Sens thread.

Nope, there have been a few that got there, and probably didn't belong.

Buffalo was just as lucky to be in the conference finals that year. Basically, the west had won it by the time the conference finals started.

The Sens were pretty lucky to get by even them though.

- prock

Buffalo was "lucky" to be in the conference finals the year they won they Presidents Trophy?

Maybe they had no chance against the Ducks, which I think I agree with, but how is a team that was the best in the conference "lucky" to make the conference finals?

that was a funny one. the sens were actually 8 wins no losses against the leafs in the regular season. and then got swept.

but that is just par for the course that the leafs send the Sens golfing at every time they face each other.

With his size and shot Laine is in a class by himself.

Did anybody else think the Leafs were going to figure out a way to screw this up?

You know who else is in a class by himself? drew doughty. he really is incredible. he's got the kings winning a lot of games lately. it's no wonder most consider him the best dman in the league.

although it looks like Weber is really joining him in that class this year. 4 goals against with him on the ice so far. that's out of control.

it will be fun to see them square off on Sunday. sort of like the champion vs the number 1 challenger.

Yes I thought Matthews was the right pick. Perhaps I was wrong. Perhaps, so we're the Leafs.

I dunno though. The Leafs have had a one-dimensional offensive winger before. It really didn't help them.

I think they weighed up 3 wingers in Laine, Nylander and Marner (with Bozak as your no.1 centre) vs 2 wingers in Nylander and Marner (with Matthews as your no. 1 centre).

They probably thought, as you yourself have said for nearly two years now (in your quest for having the Sens decrease their GAA), that they have quite a lot of firepower and really need defensively responsible players to play a more two-way game. I think Matthews gives them a better opportunity to achieve this as opposed to Laine).

Who knows though? They're both going to be 2 of the best players in the league for the next 10 to 12 years. It's exciting.

As much as it would be nice to have a great goal scorer like Laine, and it’s great that he’s garnered a bit of attention, there is no way I’d take him over Matthews, or even Marner, at this point.

They all have the same points per game rate, roughly (in fact, Matthews and Marner were ahead a few days ago, not sure if they still are). But Matthews is a Centre, Marner is a natural centre, so both play the more important position. Laine is a winger, period. As well, they are producing at the same rate (as rookies, not on a line with a few players that did pretty well without him last year), but are FAR better two way players.

I take Matthews and Marner over Laine, no questions asked. Matthews and Marner are the kind of players you build championship teams around (not that a Sens fan would understand that, they've never had a player like that, in their entire history), Laine simply is not. He's more of a complementary player, like Kessel was to Crosby. Granted, you need both to win a championship, but winnipeg has no Crosby. Nylander starts to become a question. They’re more on par with each other.

I still am puzzled as to why a Sens fan has a hardon for this though. Have they finally come to the realization that their team is a piece of crap?

Best part is, Laine would be considered the 3rd best rookie on the team if he played for the Leafs, behind Marner and Matthews. Both are light years ahead of him defensively, and while it's pretty close between the 3, Marner is currently the best offensively.

I guess you could argue that the Leafs screwed up by not acquiring the 2nd overall pick as well, as that would be a pretty lethal PP.

Can you imagine Laine on that line? He'd be the perfect complementary piece. That line would be disgusting in 2 or 3 years.

I mean, it will be disgusting without him, but it would be one of the best lines assembled in a LONG time, with him on it.

Hahaha, ever see one of those "combine these two teams, and make a lineup"? Would any Sens make the team?

Two games ago I would've said Matthews > Laine but now that Laine has scored a couple goals he's clearly the better player.

I would not think so. In head to head comparisons on the Calder race I have not seen any panel name anyone other than Laine as the likely winner. And, really important, that includes the Toronto centric broadcasters at TSN and at Sportsnet. Some of the Leaf fans here are starting to make out like the Buffalo fans of last year trying to insist that Eichal was proving out to be the better choice over McDavid.

nobody really cares what you think. youre an idiot. if anything I've seen more of werenski mentioned.

nobody thinks Matthews is better than McDavid. but we all know he's better than Laine. he's come as advertised. that's for sure.

the surprise is Marner. he's come as more than advertised.

the Leafs as an organization are happy. they're confident that Auston Matthews can lead this team to a Stanley Cup. They believe that Marner and Nylander are even better than the supporting cast he would have needed. They believe that the way Marner and Matthews have been playing that this is torontos answer to toews and kane, but better. and toews and kane never had a young cohort the caliber of Nylander.

The Leafs organization has played it smart, and they have built a team with a dominant future. now is the time to sit back and enjoy watching these youngsters dominate.

Coming from the creator of Pagiroux. .....you're really butt hurt.

Cause it's easy to troll Laine vs Matthews. Can't exactly troll Marner Matthews and Nylander with Chabot Lazar and Brown.

So guess Leafs are in a better situation.

He probably said the same things about Kalrsson when he wasn't even in the Calder nomations and Tyler Myers beat him for the award.

But Myers also beat out Benn Duchene Rask Hedman and Tavares so he's better than them too.

Truth is nobody but Spatso cares who wins the Calder. I sure don't. I just want the Leafs future players to have good to great careers. As long as this http://www.nhl.com/stats/...sort=points,goals,assists I'm okay with a Leaf not winning the Calder. Though Marner seems as good if not better stats wise vs Laine.

Youll also notice with that link....ok notice may not be the right word....you'll also want to note the absence of Sens players in the league rookie scoring race.
