By Don Brennan, Ottawa Sun: ALFIE EYEING A RETURN

http://www.ottawasun.com/...und-before-playoffs-begin

Hearing this from a very reliable source: Daniel Alfredsson is considering another role with the Ottawa Senators.

As a player.

Per source: “He’s been skating and working out every day because he misses the game so much. He’s feeling like a million bucks. He wants to play again. He’s sure he can pick up where he left off.”

Plans are for Alfredsson, the greatest player in Senators history, to continue training throughout the summer, then show up at Ottawa’s camp to see if the comeback attempt is worth pursuing.

Yes, he will be 44, but apparently the inspiration of his desire to return is Jaromir Jagr, the 45-year old legend who is still going strong with the Florida Panthers.

Alfredsson’s last season in the NHL was three years ago with the Detroit Red Wings, for whom he scored 18 goals and 49 points in 68 games.

Plagued by back issues, he finally decided to hang up the blades on Dec. 4, 2014 and, after signing a ceremonial agreement with the Senators, went out as a member of the team he spent 17 seasons with as its heart and soul, 13 of them as the captain.

Recently, it’s believed Alfredsson has grown antsy in his role as the Senators’ senior adviser, a job he enjoys, but leaves him wanting more.

If he doesn’t feel like he can be an on-ice contributor after training camp, the source said, he will return to the team’s front office.

Long-time Alfredsson’s friend Andreas Dackell said in an email on Friday that he has been sworn to secrecy regarding this matter.

“For sure, I know what he wants to do,” wrote Dackell. “But if I say a word, he will not give me any strokes on the golf course this summer. I can’t take that risk.”

Other attempts to contact his closest confidants were fruitless.

On Friday night, Alfredsson played with the NHL alumni against a team of rockers in the Juno Cup at TD Place.

Laughing and joking throughout the game, he also skated hard on occasion, looking like he did in his glory days.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, another friend said:

“Danny loves the game so much. He never really wanted to quit, but he had to. He told me he still thinks he could be a 20-goal scorer, maybe 25."

Alfredsson, when reached after the Juno Cup, would neither confirm or deny his intentions.

You can expect to learn more about Alfredsson’s plans shortly, but in the meantime, a special Doni-Brook message is spelled out with the first letter of every paragraph in this story. Until next week, buenos dias!

Why would anyone read anything by Brennan.. .....98% of what he writes is completely fabricated and reading his crap literally makes you dumber.

He's the sports "writer" equivalent of the national enquirer

I just assumed you got tricked by a sensationalist headline, as usual.

So no. But reading the last paragraph I see that I was right to not read the whole thing.

leafs now in second place.

that could cut down on melnickel's home playoff dates. I wonder who gets traded to reduce salaries to compensate for that.

I mentioned in eklunds thread I don't think the sens are a lock for the playoffs. that retard sensarmy laughed. they're getting damn close to 9th.

I don't get how they go from year t9 year thinking they have a good team. they're going nowhere. the sens are such an embarrassment of an organization.

There are only three teams in the Eastern Conference that have allowed fewer goals, than the Senators.

Preventing goals, and scoring enough to win games, requires just as much talent as the teams that score more goals, than average, while still allowing a few goals.

So in Ottawa's defense, the talent is there, for the regular season ........... let's all see what happens in the playoffs ........ I'll invite leaf fans to watch along, as they will be able to watch the Sens playoff games, as there will probably be no leaf games after the 9th of March.

So we are going to play let's pretend again today.

Sens are deep in NHL prospects in their system...Leafs are not.

Sens are good this year. They will be better next year.

I am not the only one predicting a sophomore slump for Leafs next year. Their lack of D will be exploited in exactly the same way as it was for the Oilers over a bunch of years. Leafs have done nothing...nothing to convince anyone that they have been able to grow out of their loser tradition.

nothing. Nothing! no youth at all either. Nothing!
