"Now, Radulov wasn’t cheap for Dallas – he will carry roughly the same cap hit as Marleau – but Radulov here looks like a star forward playing exceptional hockey. To me, this is the type of guy who you add to put you over the top. Maybe Toronto had no interest in Radulov, or vice versa. But head-to-head against Marleau, he’s a better scorer, his team’s better when he’s on the ice from a goal perspective, and his team’s better when he’s on the ice from a shot perspective."

Great job by Pete Dorion.

First, drafting Laine, and now, this (signing Radulov).

In more theoretical models (eg Bernard Lonergan on Insight) denial is best understood as bias. How we see things can be shaped by how we are predisposed to want see.

Phaneuf had an outstanding regular season and playoff as was mentioned often by the broadcast crew, by Coaches Corner and all other media. The Senators' great year was directly influenced by the strong performance of Dion Phaneuf.

Your continued harping on Phaneuf has something to do with your inability to accept that the Sens got a great year from a player that cratered while playing for the Leafs.

We are not into Larry Murphy territory yet...but it is important to note that Murphy just seemed to get better and better.

We have seen people write that last year was Phaneuf's best year since his Calgary days. He did for Ottawa what he was not able to do for the Leafs. Sorry, but other than Leaf fans and Leaf media Phaneuf played really well and was great value to the Sens making their ECF run.

- spatso

So outstanding that the Sens were dieing to get rid of him.

Do you ever get anything right?

Radulov's 18 goals definitely show how much better he is at scoring than Marleau's 27.

Good job man.

Also, when it comes time for the Leafs to clear cap to sign Matthews and Marner, it's a lot easier to move a guy making 1.25M for 1 year than it is to move a guy who has 3 years at 6.25 left. Only an absolute idiot of a GM would pay a rival for the privilege to take on that contract.

I believe Leafs we're in on early bidding!
- spatso

Nothing you posted, twice, suggests the Leafs offered more or were even in on the bidding.

Is there any other (frank)ing thing you want to just make up.

It's all well and good to have the great Leafs vs Sens debate, or smaller-scale debates about players etc.

It would be nice if you could bring a fact to the table once in a while, or get something right.

A little (frank)ing reading and comprehension and not simply making poop up is all we are asking here.

Viscious!

Insensitive?

Perhaps a little harsh for summer talk?

Remember this is the B team of the Leaf commentariat. If you scorch them too deeply they will run away and hide.

They take great delight in believing they are big and powerful. They become somewhat despondent when reminded that they have been inept and mostly redundant for more than 50 years.

If I remember correctly they got the lowest ranking ever as a sports franchise by ESPN because of their perststant ineptitude. Remarkably it is symbolically character shaping for many of the Leaf supporters posting on this thread. Even though they post differently they understand and share a premordial awareness of betrayal. For so many years, hopes have been raised only to be shattered by the reality of Leaf front office incompetence.

Is this new group a change from the Keystone Kops of the last 50 years? I think so. I hope so.

But we cannot forget. It is just a few years ago that we watched in horror as a Leaf team put on one of the most disgraceful performances ever as they collapsed against the Bruins in the third period. Kessel was blamed and run out of town. It was said by Leaf fans no team could ever win a Stanley Cup with Phil Kessel in their line up. Phil paid for his sins by being banished to a team that has won two Stanley Cups since his arrival. It is all so complex. Yet, if nothing changes, if losing repeats as a pattern, maybe, the curse of Harold Ballard is real.

I believe Leaf fans have a huge ineptitude complex. Individually they are smart, well studied hockey fans. But put them into a group and they turn into a pack of rabid dogs desperate for an an answer to their eternal suffering. Despite all their protestations to the opposite they still tremble in fear. They believe in the inevitability of failure, they support a culture of doubt. Despite all the positive signs from last year, somehow, Leaf fans still wonder if they are destined to collapse again. Serious consideration should be given to starting this season with an exorcism at center ice on opening night. Time to let go of all the feelings of bitterness and betrayal. Let the demons go. For far too long you have had to live with shame and ridicule. Now is the time to cast the demons out.

Their 5v5 stats are very similar. Marleau better scorer, Radulov better assists. Marleau better Corsi and Fenwick... pts/60 Favours Radulov.

Age obviously favours Radulov but he also is signed for 5 years so he interferes with the development plan.

Yost has proven himself to be a hack writer, he did so when he came out with that piece about Matthews being the equivalent of twelve 5th round picks. You shouldn't cite his work if you hope to be taken seriously as a knowledgeable hockey fan.

Holy (frank)abaloo I forgot about that.

Leafs should trade Matthews for a 2nd, 2 x 4ths, and 2 x 5ths.

He actually wrote that for all to read. Unbelievable

I remember that. But I think he was trying to determine relative value of the first overall pick. I don't think he was trying to make it about Matthews specifically.

It is easy enough to test. If you took a draft year #1 and swapped it for the 4th pick as well as 4 and 5 pick for the same team in the draft year plus the next year. If you plotted that out over 10 years I think the safer bet is to take # 1 ....maybe.

Read the article. Burns and Vlasic are not part of the deal. Yost projects that Marleau is I need a bit tough playing in front of Leaf no name defense.
