my last meal was as much of the salads and sides i could grab from the plates as after we were invited to a friend's parents for easter and repeatedly assured that having food for me and adge would not be a problem or burden on them in any way and we shouldn't worry about bringing anything but dessert...

there was not much we could eat

i did have some chick pea relishy salad thing that was delicious, i wanted to just tip the whole bowl back into my maw

so here I was on this rainy day as I pulled into the lot at the big orange



I remembered there is a little nook in there that I would probably have to eat in since the picnic tables they have set up were at an angle where the rain was penetrating the little tent they are under.

As soon as I set foot in the place I quickly realized I would be eating in my car as the nook was submerged in several inches of water.

the asian lady asked what she could get me and I asked if they had an option with 2 michigans and a poutine.

She quickly responded that I could choose options 5 (two michigans and fries) and replace the fries with a poutine for a supplement. note: both options come with a julep

I agreed with this and she quickly asked me for over $17 dollars which threw me for a loop considering this is waaaaay above the market rate for this type of meal but I figured what the hell I'm in the big orange yolo. It turns out the poutine supplement is $3.50 and the base cost of the combo is $11.95. Total pre-tax cost of $15.45. Total cost was $17.75. more on that later.

She filled the cup of julep and handed it to me

I sipped on the julep while I waited, it was good but I knew right then and there that I would later have diarrhea but it I knew in the end it would be worth it. The rest was handed to be in a bag. We had a brief exchange over whether or not there was a fork in the bag as well as napkins and once all that was settled to my satisfaction I walked out and went to my car.

I settled in and readied my meal:



as you can see I said "yes" to the onions option on the michigans and ate the dogs to start off as advised by ziggy in great anticipation of the poutine to follow.

Unfortunately that is when the day took a turn for the worst. The michigans were not that great and I placed all my hopes in the poutine. Sadly while the fries were good I found both the gravy and the cheese to be sorely lacking in both flavour and texture. The cheese was too soft and had no hint of the great squeak of a premium curd while the sauce was too thick and barely tasted like anything at all. Salt was lacking throughout.

Back to price, it was frustrating that starting right across the road from me was Belle Pro's where you can get two steamies, a larger, better poutine and unlimited refills of sodas or grape juice for under $11. Clearly I had once again fallen for the gimmick of being inside a huge orange and remembered why it is that I end up there only about once a decade.

The best part of my meal was when I drove off and got a coffee from the other corner of the street

It's a forthy mix of orange juice and what seems to be milk. Less acidic than orange juice and pleasant in texture (some pulp) although still deceptively sugary
