Granny and I ran up a tab of 140 bucks before tip.

She had some kind of cheese starter thingy and a steak with hand cut fries and a chili mayo.

She also had a creme brule.

Not a bad price for a high quality chef.

Place is called Allium. If I ever see that girl instead of that black dude at the gamestop maybe I'll ask if she wants to go there.

The chef was happy to accommodate my mother's intolerance for mushrooms.

They also had this cool painting of a dude falling into a fiery vortex that reminded me of Doctor Who or something.

I love that place.

This is highly improbable.

Starter (chef's choice): steak tar tar topped with foie gras with a side of some kind of delicious tomato puree and some crostinis.

Main course: Several cuts of pork done several different ways (smoked, seared, encrusted) on top of some fancy mashed and spinach with an apple puree.

Dessert: creme brule with salted caramel and peanut butter ice cream and a cookie.

My only question looking at that list was whether the appetizer would be quite heavy - a lot of complex protein there - but hot damn.

I drank Heineken because I am an uncultured slob but each meal had a suggested wine which my grandmother partook (also she had a martini).

Interestingly the appetizer was not my choice. The chef has a ? option on the menu where you let him choose what he wants to make you. I chose the ? for the app. But I didn't find it was too much protein since the tartare was quite light and the foie gras was a dollop.

There's a restaurant in town called the Allium and the chef there is just incredible.

No doubt, if I was there I'd have gotten the cheese plate for dessert and we could do splitzies... mmmmm, cheese plate. I ate my way through Boston and Cambridge the other week and don't regret a thing.

At the same time, I've been trying to learn to cook tasty, healthy, less expensive food lately. It's freaking hard to get all three in a meal. It's definitely been making me think a lot more about how cooking works and how you get nutrition from the food you eat. Kind of eye opening, really, feel like I've been learning a lot in the past 4 months or so.
