i am 50% italian but believe it or not this is the irish side that does this big thanksgiving thing every year.

this is the 31st year in a row we've done it at the same house.

we prep for about a week and then on wednesday night we have a "potato party" where we all get together and slice up the potatoes for the mashed potatoes. we get drunk and eat and have a good time (this year until 3:30 am - i didn't even get into the scotch until like 1:30). then on thanksgiving we all show up at the house at about 2 or 3 and have the feast. on black friday some people shop but i just show up at the bar in the afternoon for drinks and then we head back to the house for a less formal feast of leftovers.

this year it was 18 people, but we've had as many as 25 or so in the past.

also, i don't know why it isn't listed, but there was sausage stuffing with bacon. the recipe called for 4 slices of bacon. we used ten. it was the best stuffing of all 31 years.

the menu is never the same and every year we try new stuff.

this year's real experiment was the swedish glogg. it was terrible. we all took one sip, laughed, and put our little cups back on the tray. but now we can say we've had swedish glogg. it tasted like thera-flu. only one person finished it. but he's an bumhole and nobody really likes him. the molestory weirdo uncle (he married in).

honestly, it is probably the best day of the year. everyone comes home and we have a really good time.

tomorrow a bunch of us are going to the city to bar hop and then attending a birthday party in the evening. we try to do as much as we can together while everyone is home.

it's a good family to have.

also, my baby cousin libby from ardmore was there and she is the best.

last year she was an infant and the entirety of my duties for the week of prep was to play with her and rock her to sleep and stuff while everyone worked. they call me the baby whisperer. she is awesome.

her name is actually elizabeth. i think that was my grandmother's middle name.

she's great. we taught her to say ho ho ho the day before yesterday. and sometimes she walks up and hugs me around my shins and her little hand pats me on the calf while she hugs.

she's a little chubber too. and i think all babies should be chubby.
