I was going to get one for school... can do anything you need for school on it, and you have access to the internet wherever you go(side note: TTC is introducing cell-phone service on the subway in a few years )... you can hook it up to a TV to watch movies, and you have your music with you. I think it's a great device if you don't already have a laptop.

it being bigger also means it's more powerful, which means you can get better apps on it. It's essentially a netbook without the physical keyboard, and with built-in 3G. And a solid state drive.

The ipad needs to have a phone connection and needs to support flash. The phone may happen but it will never support flash (and html5?). I don't see apple holding the edge on apps for very long. The solid state drive is very cool though.

They just came out with an ipad-looking thing but it doesn't appear to be too promising.

I still think my dell streak (5 inch screen) is much better than most....but it was very expensive. That's been the only drawback so far. That and I have to wait for the froyo update to use flash.

They just came out with an ipad-looking thing but it doesn't appear to be too promising.

While it's not full flash support, apple does now allow games built in the flash environment in the app-store... but yea, I'll agree with you there, no Flash is a drawback.

As for apps, they're going to be in the lead for a very long time, because they've reached the critical mass needed. iOS devices are the most popular devices in their markets, by far. The money in app development lies with developing apps for the iOS devices first, and then porting them to the other devices for a little bit of extra income. The thing is the ports usually come out months after the iOS releases, and have to be tuned down to work on the other devices... and the majority of apps never even get ported because of the hardware requirements. Because they have the advantage in the app store, people are going to keep on buying iOS devices at a higher rate than any other, and because of that, they're going to keep on getting the best apps. Bringing the app store to the new version of OSX is going to help even more.

Its the same reason why Microsoft held the stranglehold on the consumer computer market for so long, and why Blackberry will continue to rape iOS and Droid in the business market for a while longer.

I have teh Acer Liquid, and I've played around with my friends... I don't remember which one it is, but I know it's one of the top-of-the line models(cost her like $800)

I don';t even know what started it..Apple and Adobe worked really well together for a very long time.

Jobs says Flash wouldn't have worked on the iPhones, and that may have been true for the older models, but from the 3Gs onwards, it doesn't hold much water IMO.
