Japanese games have always struggled to release here though, who's to say they didn't release rapey school girl upskirt dress design VII due to potential outrage backlash when in the past poop like that didn't come here simply because they're such niche titles that it wouldn't make sense financially to even bother translating it for a release outside of Japan.

It's gotten a lot better though. There's nowhere as many games that stay in japan as was the case in the NES, SNES/GEN and PS1/SATURN era. I'm generally against censorship (though companies deciding what to sell or not in the face of what they see as broad trends may not really qualify), my reaction to your post was based on the language you were using to (eventually) get around to making that point.
