Most Liberals don't really seem to like Iggy all that much, but do seem to at least have a soft spot for Layton... What it's looking like at this point is that the Liberal vote may be split between both the liberals and the NDP, which could result in not only a Conservative majority, but also the Bloc forming the official opposition.

Harper isn't exactly popular, but people seem to have at least a little bit of a comfort level with him now that he's been there for so long and has handled the recession reasonably well. Iggy makes people nervous, and comes across as a little pompous, not to mention the fact that he doesn't really have all the support of his own party.. Layton is... well... Layton, and has the undying support of his party, And Gilles Duceppe remains totally irrelevant outside Quebec.

Exactly. Harper has never been more popular than he is right now, especially in comparison to the rest of the bunch... falling right into his "They're pushing us into ANOTHER election!" trap just makes them look like morons no matter what angle you look at it from.

we've also had so many elections that it doesn't matter who wins, they won't do it with the majority of the population backing them up. It'll be like 1/10 of Canada that supports the winner.

Our political system is such a mess that we've become largely apathetic. I personally follow American politics far more than Canadian... in the end, our policies more or less end up being slightly more liberal versions of their's.

edit: all our parties are pretty centrist too... from a marketing perspective, no single party is doing enough to distinguish itself from it's competition
