otherwise you risk the noodles sticking together. also it just looks terrible. and mixing on a plate is always disastrous and inefficient

So, no one is ever allowed to have the gravy/Pasta mix in the manner they prefer it, in your humble abode?

... If there is a tad of oil in the water and a not very long time period between dishing the Pasta and ladling on the gravy, there should be no sticking together.

I will say that the serving plate in the photo was too small for the helping... but the other parts of it don't bother me in the least.

I've never had any concerns with my Gravy adhering to my Pasta... Italians have done it for generations upon generation... but then again, they may not have had the luxury of being able to watch 'The Chew' every day.

Technically... If there is any meat in it, it is gravy... if no meat, it is a sauce... In the general realm of Italian life it is gravy, UNLESS a specific sauce is said by name, such as Marinara Sauce, Pesto Sauce, etc.

JMO.
