Not quite so extreme but it was the beginning of the end. To her credit, she made one hell of a pasta e fagioli. In the end, some things just can't be forgotten.

Technically... If there is any meat in it, it is gravy... if no meat, it is a sauce... In the general realm of Italian life it is gravy, UNLESS a specific sauce is said by name, such as Marinara Sauce, Pesto Sauce, etc.

There is Marinara Sauce among other red meatless ones... and often meatless red ones during Lent or on Fridays in the old days... We just called it gravy.
