Wow lots of great Bourbon talk happened that I missed.
Any of you tried this before? I've had it a few times, picked up a bottle about a month or so ago...the hardcore bourbon enthusiasts say its basically Pappy Van Winkle at 12 years old but at a reasonable price.
I recommend.

Pappy Van Winkle is a Buffalo Trace product as well, and widely considered one of the best bourbons by some.
I find the Weller to be a fair bit different than Buffalo Trace personally, more mellow....but that being said I don't mind Buffalo Trace to be honest, especially considering the price. |

buffalo trace isn't bad by any means, just not for me. i love bourbon but i'm new to it, so i'm trying to figure out which ones are for me. the variety isn't the best around here.
unrelated: finally popped open the four roses single barrel a few weeks ago and it was un-(frank)ing-believable.

i think i'm still leaning more towards the scotch and the irish whiskey than the bourbon. but i do still like the bourbon. but like you said it's burny so far. i like that it's sweeter though.
sweet. just like me. |

Agreed, fantastic bourbon right there. I wish it was more widely available in Ontario. |

Kick, a future whiskey alternative, which some will see as blasphemy:
Hangar One Chipotle Vodka. Has some heat, but more sweetness than a peaty smoke. Flavor upfront is vanilla (real vanilla, not vanilla extract) that blends into a clean vodka taste with a chipotle kick at the end. Sometimes when I don't feel like waking up smelling of scotch the next day I have 2 fingers of that with a big ice cube.

I have only seen this once and passed it up as I didn't need vodka at the time |

I've become a single malt snob but this was fantastic.
EDIT: Fantastic might be stretching it, but still very good. Nice chocolate hints in the aftertaste, smooth. Prefer a little more peatiness in it. |

When not adventurous, this has become my go to.
Actually seems to be better with a splash of water rather than a few rocks. |

i was emailing back and forth with a guy that runs a scotch website to see what kinds i should try. i told him what my preferences were and that i'm looking for things i'll like in the 30-40 dollar range for every day and some things that are more expensive to splurge a couple times a year. he told me that people who like the glens for $35 would love the glenmorangie 18 for a treat every once in a while. i'm gonna see how much more it costs next time i go in. |

I thought so too. Doesnt seem right but a scotch snob I know convinced me to try it. Has to be distilled water though. Stil prefer a couple stones but the water seems to draw out other flavours.
Oh yeah, whiskey stones. Theyre great. Also got some Glencairn whiskey glasses. Im all in. |
