I think we will need more than 24 hours. We're spending to the cap and have like a gizzillion dollars in space. This must be what Yan feels like when he walks through his poppy fields.

Well when you call Chris Pronger washed up... I have to question such stupidity.
- Richards18

No the question is why a GM brings in more money against the cap when the team is already right up against it.

Anyone who seriously think that Gainey is doing a good job as GM or that he is even lucid for that matter, knows little or nothing about hockey...
This is a TERRIBLE trade...7.4M$ cap hit for a career 14-15 goal scorer... 56 points last year, playing on the powerplay?? are u guys serious? Gainey just panicked and set us back another 5 years...
Let us list Gaineys idiocies during his 6 year tenure as General Clown of the Montreal Canadiens: (in no order)
Losing Streit for nothing, Losing Souray for nothing, now losing Komisarek who was at one point the heart and soul of this team for NOTHING, disrespecting Saku yet being more than willing to resign a guy who completely abandoned his teammates 3 years ago in Toronto (last game of year) and several times since, Signing Hamrlik for almost 6 Million wieners, Betraying his apparent top two friends in Jarvis and Carbs, then Lever, all with NO explanation, Losing all the other UFAs for nothing, being a SELLER two years ago with the Canadiens first in the East (wow what a vote of encouragement for the guys who had battled so hard that year), signing Samsonov, not realizing Langdon had signed elsewhere a few years ago ("I found out after came back from my fishing trip" said Gainey that summer...)....and now GOmez

But SERIOUSLY, IS GAINEY SOBER?? IS HE LUCID?? THIS GUY IS ALSO THE MOST ARROGANT , AND LEAST FAN FRIENDLY GM IN CANADIENS HISTORY, NO TRANSPARENCY, RARELY TALKS TO MEDIA, POINTED FINGER AT FANS SEVERAL TIMES IN CRITICISM, AND IS A HORRIBLE, I MEAN HORRIBLE SALESMAN WHEN COMES TIME TO ATTRACTING FREE AGENT AND TALKING WITH OTHER GMs ...

HAD ENOUGH THIS IS INSANELY RIDICULOUS!!

The only thing that blows about this deal is the cap hit. Gomez is an upgrade to last year's centres.

Is it great? No.
Is Bob done? No.
How do I know? His Hummer isn't burning.

- Ultimate Cyberhabs

It is safe for now Now Im hoping that BG does this next makes a play for Hossa, Laperriere, (Neil he can beat the goof in Boston.) Get 2 of this 3 Beauchemin,Seidenberg, De Vries and his Hummer stays safe

I've been up to my knees in mud for 4 days, I miss my desk.

When I came into regain my sanity I saw the trade on TSN and wished I'd been here.

Only after laughing at my wife the Habs fan.

Personally, I don't like the trade, but I'm getting used to it already.
All depends of what will happen next. We need grit.

Now that Gainey has overpaid for a second line center, I wonder if he will go get a #1 center, since it is what we needed in the first place?

Exactly. DeVries and Beauchemin would shore up the D, especially with the departure of Komisarek and bring in toughness and character.

Another guy I would love to see in a Habs uniform who is UFA is Chad Larose.

Laperriere would be nice and even Chris Neil... nice 4th 'crash line adding Stewart into the mix...

Finally... some heart and grit and toughness throughout the lineup! Keep going Bob

Exactly. The 8 million contract + losing McDonagh was tough to swallow.
But I like Gomez and his two-way play, personally.
As long as he's well surrounded.

Cap hit blows but Gomez is an upgrade. I think I read that he averages out at 7.3

Me too. I don't want to be #5 in the NE anymore.

If Gomez is the start of something big, then it'll be an alright season in Montreal next year.

If Gomez is all that happens, we'll be seeing someone else watching the team from the GM's box come november.
