If it were Higgins for Gomez straight up, it wouldn't be as puzzling, but I'm wondering where Gainey is going with this. Surely he has more moves up his sleeve...no way he's done his off-season moves before July 1st even hits.
He hasn't offered Tanguay a contract yet either, which is puzzling, so perhaps he's got something planned for tomorrow? Who knows.. - Ron Guillet
Gainey = Senile out of touch old men. |

That's a weird one. - Yan
Yan don't take what I said persoanlly, forget about the trades for a second
BG just got taken by Glen Sather.
Sather has been the worst GM in the league over 5-10 years....and he convincingly won this trade.
This is why I'm pissed.
Sorry brother, didn't mean for it to come out as condescending as it ended up being.
Fire Gainey. |

Not straight up, but Montreal needs to prepare a package for Vinny and Gomez is a major piece. Rumors are rumors though my friend, keep it in mind. - Charlie M.
Fair enough. Sorry for being rude buddy, that deal didn't put me in my best mood.

Worst trade since Rejean Houle traded Roy. I guess Gainey falls in the Rejean Houle category now. Well no playoffs for us this year. - Habs_Dude
Come off it.
Gomez is a great hockey player. When we traded Roy we got nothing in return of value. At least we're getting an elite playmaker. |

Gomez is not being flipped, if he was Gainey would not come out and say how happy they are to have him in the organization.
I just hope he picks up at least another player to play with him and maybe the sisters. |

I really wish everyone would shut the *@#$ up with all their negativity! I'm not a huge fan of Gomez but all you bandwagon jumpers with "Montreal will miss the playoffs for the next 10 years" b.s. are really starting to tick me off. Isn't this team only one year removed from finishing with the best record in the East? Calling Gainey Houle is just plain ridiculous, he's a smart man and will make the right moves to ensure this team bounces back from this past season and is more competitive and more consistent next year. |

Although his cap hit is what concerns most of us here, I do agree with Gomez being a very effective player for the Habs. Can't deny that the kid's got talent. |

I don't know about great, but he's a good player coming off a bit of a down year. I still think the Rangers won this trade, but it's not that one-sided as some here seem to think. IMHO, of course.
The part that sucks is that the Flyers now can't dump Briere's salary on you guys.

My thought exactly. Gomez is a pretty good player. Just not $8m a season good IMO. Thats Crosby/Chara/Malkin type money.... |
