Yeah, scroll back a few and you will see from last night. Flyers made a good trade, Habs didn't. Big surprise. |

Good morning....
are you ready for some exciting transactions?
Gainey is apparently targeting Havlat and Hossa...your thoughts? |

Yes, I saw that. Probably more Havlat than Hossa, which annoys me. However, if Havlat can stay healthy, he may be the sniper we need. But Kovy hasn't signed and that saddens me.
On a funny/sad note, the dude Mark Everson who covers the Devils for the Post, had an article this morning saying the Devils need a right handed D Man, and they are tough to come by. There are lefty ones, like Ohlund and Komisarek available, but at a price. How funny/sad is that? |

The former has not happened, and from what we hear, development has slowed. Can he be good? Sure. But we don't know, and that's what happens in deals for proepects. You have to give to get. As for the latter, from what I hear, he is already there. - hscesq
I just don't get how Tampa could have turned that trade down, and Pleks and Gorges were part of that deal too........
I don't mind giving up higgins or Mcdonaugh, I dont even mind giving up Markov or even Price, for a 7.3 million dollar player.......
As long as 2 things happen:
We instantly become better.
We land an IMPACT player.
I don't think either of those happened with this trade. Did we upgrade our center position signifigantly to warrant tying up 7.3 mil over the next 5 years?
Martin better know something we don't about how he can use Gomez's talents.

So, in a big surprise, our friend thinks the Flyers made out big time with their acquisition. - hscesq
Well, it is fair to say that Holmgren flipped a coin on this one.
Heads they make it to the cup final next year.
Tales, anything else, and the Flyers are screwed,
but, they still have Giroux Carter, Richards, Gagne, Look at our last 7 first rounders, I think DD showed we let go 6 of them....if Holmgren is bad, then BG is just as bad, he did the same thing.
Only difference is Philly is actually a contender now, and we're going in a new direction |

We certainly upgraded our center position from last year. Right now, it's Gomé (I like that one Asp!) for Higgins, and money aside, I make that trade every day. Now, will it handcuff us in the coming years? That is a distinct possibility I suppose, but we will have to see. As many have said here since the trade, nobody comes to the Habs voluntarily, and so Bob has no choice but to overpay (see Hamrlik, Roman) for UFAs, or make trades that appear one sided. |

Koivu sadly could not keep up. He struggled in the second part of the season.
Plek's hasn't been the same since he signed the Vagisil endorsement.
Lapierre played great in his role.
Metropolit can only give you so much.
So, unfortunately, we did become a better team. Unfortunately because Gomez was last year's impact F.A. who said no thanks to the Habs.

A contender with what goalie? Emery? Biron? Please. Don't make me laugh. |

We definitely upgraded, don't get me wrong. Is it worth the salary?
As I said, if Martin knows he can maximize every bit of skill, Heart, Talent etc..etc.. Gomez has then it's worth it.
If this trade allows us the chance to sign Gaborik, Havlat, or Hossa AND retain Kovalev or Tanguay...then it starts to become worth it, as I'll easily justify the trade by telling myself "well they were'nt gonna sign without gomez traded here first" |

That's a very good point, and he will get one of those and retain Kovy. Not sure about Tanguay. |

Worst thing for me, is the fact that WE helped the Rangers getting rid of that contract. Bah, whatever... I'm anxious to see what will happen next.

Komisarek isn't signing here anymore,
I think that if the players vote for captain, we'll see the C on Markov
If It's appointed by Martin or Gainey it will be on........*gulp*.......Kova....*BIG SIGH*........Kovalev..... |

There will be no vote my good man. If Kovalev signs, he gets the "C", whether Kimisarek is there or not. There is no doubt about it. And if Kovalev signs, and plays with Gomé, he gets 35 goals and 45 assists, assuming health. |

you'll hate it even more if they sign Komisarek with that money.......which is now a distinct possibility. |

They aren't signing Komisarek. They need offense, not defense. |
