*starting to calm down, and tries to justify the trade*

He did excel in a defensive system in Jersey..... Right? I mean we won't fire this coach after 1.5 seasons and change direction.....Right?

Koivu= 5'10. 195

Gomez= 5'11 195

*starts to pray*

Fire Gainey.

- oleoleole

For the salary, Koivu over gomez anytime.

Gainey sucks!!

Come off it.

Gomez is a great hockey player. When we traded Roy we got nothing in return of value. At least we're getting an elite playmaker.

- blarneylad

Elite? As in the amount of money he's getting paid for about 50 passes a year? When's the last time you saw Gomez in the NHL's top 10 scoring leaders?

That's right, never.

Although his cap hit is what concerns most of us here, I do agree with Gomez being a very effective player for the Habs. Can't deny that the kid's got talent.
- JoeStar1

I maybe could have got past if it was just Higgins, but including McD is crazy. I'm at a loss right now. I'm actually upset about this.

Just FYI, I wasn't insulted a bit by your other post.
I don't like that deal at all, personally.

- 8 million contract
- Giving away a young Higgins and McDonagh
- Helping the Rangers saving money

I don't like that at all, even if I respect Scott Gomez as a player.

come on guys it's not like you would actually be able to sign a UFA? no matter how much money you have no one would of jumped on your roster... now you've staretd to make some adjustments, maybe some of the UFA's just started listening....

now correct me if i'm wrong but that's 30 mill minus 7 mill = 23?

THE SEDINS: 12 million... now you would have 2 legitimate centers... that's something not many other team has... you better start praying.... cuz if gainey pulls it off

I dont get you guys. I don't think it was an outstanding deal or anything, but the guys on this site continually sh1t on Higgins for 3 years, saying he is terrible etc... Now we get Gomez, who is a very good player (yes I believe overpaid). If McDonough turns out to be a star, its a bad deal. If not then its a good deal. Relax

Did Gomez have a NTC or NMC in his contract ?
- habs21

Yes, Gomez had a NTC clause and it's quite obvious that he he waived to play for the Habs. Tells you a lot about a player who waives his NTC clause to play for you.

The more I digest the more I agree with you here a bit. We still have some cap space to do some things. We need to make sure we have enough left when price becomes an RFA
- habssylvor

LMAO...are you kidding? I was at game four...Price will not resign with the Habs if he has a choice. The city has treated him so poorly that everyone around him is telling him to get out fast....I think he'll honor his contract, but he will never re-sign her if he has a choice. That bridge was burnt by this city long long ago.

I'm sure he is busy answering all the phone calls coming from the other 28 GM's who have overpaid underachieving players they want to unload....

Just broke a keyboard.......

Man I'm too attached to this club.... I got to forget about hockey for a while. This isn't healthy.

That being said, what could you possibly say or write that's worse than the giant "PHUK YOU" Gianey just gave us?

Elite may be a bit over valueing the pickup. but i still am looking forward to see what else gainey has in store for us.

Gomez on a line with kostitsyn will look good for us next year.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH GAINEY!? Montreal is so screwed now!!! I can't believe this.

Habs have so many players unsigned, and now they take on a massive GARBAGE contract in Gomez!! You are going to lose Kovalev and Koivu, and in return you're gonna have Gomez and what, maybe Cammelleri? Jesus christ, worst move I've ever seen. This is terrible. And I thought leaf fans had it rough.

My condolences to the habs... I actually like montreal too, but ouch...

Gomez and A. Kost could be very nice

Maybe the Sedins can still be gotten and trade Plek. Hire Beauchemin and Kovy and we are done. Resign the remaining RFAs.

Would make a nice team. A nice dream too.

Sedins with Kovy
S. Kost Gomez A. Kost
Latendresse Lapierre Pacioretty
Laraque Metropolit Stewart/Dagostini

Markov Beauchemin

Nice work on the avatar.

And to answer your question, no he doesn't have one written in....the term and cost pretty much took care of that. Or so one would have thought.

Seriously, we could have kept Koivu, and not given up anything, where is the improvement? Not only that! we have a big contract to pay for 8 years, and we gave up young prospects, what a joke

this is worse than the pronger trade. gainey and homer must be having a competition. gomez has the worst contract in the league, which is not his fault. but acquiring a guy who's a 2nd line talent, getting paid like a datsyuk, is a bad deal. at least the habs have a better prospect talent pool than the stripped bare flyers.

Not really he lists 3 teams he does not want to be traded to at the end of each seasons...
