Any Habs fan who is even remotely satisfied with this deal must be dellusional!! Gomez has the WORST contract in the league! 8 MILLION!

Good LORD. If toronto had done this, we would have never heard the end of it.

I had been hoping that Sather would be left looking like an idiot for those contracts, but Gainey just let him off the hook!?

I just came in. Didnt know anything about today's activities. IS this a good trade?

I didn't mind trading McDonaugh for Lecavalier in a package. I'm just not sure if this is a great trade or a good trade or a decent trade or a rip off.

I doubt it's a rip off.

For now, i will accept this as a decent trade.

the habs are like no other team in the NHL. good prospects some good player, lots of money yet still no one wants to play there... FOR CRYING OUT LOUD GET A HOLD OF YOURSELVES. you still have tons of money. if that's the only thing Bob does fine, be mad. but the game aint over, it isn't even started yet. gomez is overpaid but montreal can't get a contract without overpaying... you might just sign the sedins... from what i heard they are interested

Do you know anything about the NHL? It's a bad trade and a salary dump by the rangers.

I'm surprised your blogger hasn't commented iunless I missed it?

I just don't know what to say, worst trade I've seen from habs since ribeiro-ninimaa.
Higgins is gonna be awesome in a defensive-agressive style team. Can't wait to see him with Callahan and Dubinsky. Mcdonaugh was close to our #1 prospect. What do we gain ??? A good OVERPAID center who'll struggle because he has no quality wingers.
If Komisarek gets traded, I dont even know why I'd root for the canadiens.

There are 5 pages - and counting - of realistic Hab fans recognizing this deal for what it is. Gainey essentially bailed oout Sather; take solace in the fact that he did not take Redden and his contract back by throwing in the likes of Subban.

Hopefully - if you're a Hab fan - this is the precursor to something bigger, but for now I can't wrap my head around this one...

Elite may be a bit over valueing the pickup. but i still am looking forward to see what else gainey has in store for us.

Gomez on a line with kostitsyn will look good for us next year.

- blarneylad

Then you're looking forward to a bif fat NOTHING. This is Gainey's BIG move... see his statement: "We are extremely pleased to have acquired a player of the caliber of Scott Gomez [...]" Extrmely please to have given up your top defensive prospect for an 50 passes/year, 8M$ player.

Gainey's done as far as trades go... he's got his "top" centerman now so bye bye Sedin twins, bye bye Vinny.

Come to think of it... 50 passes a year... isn't that about as much as Koivu usually does? Maybe a bit less but... FOR HALF THE PRICE, WITHOUT GIVING AWAY YOUR TOP D PROSPECT.

God, I simply can't get over how bad this trade really is. Top 10 worst trades of all time, for sure.

when i first heard about the Gomez-for-Higgins thing, i was livid. i come home to find out Bob included Ryan McDonagh in the deal and got back 2 B- at best prospect. so not only did we take on an $8-million second-line centre and hand over a 3-time 20-goal scoring 25-year-old winger, but we also hand over arguably the best prospect in our system?

please, someone tell i am missing something. i have to be. did McDoagh get run over by a truck and no one knows yet?

this trade alone is a fireable offense. i have no words. i just can't believe this. i am embarrassed for Bob Gainey at this point.

God I would laugh if Gainey signs the Sedins tomorrow and Gomez ends up our 2nd center. Yes he is overpaid, but we had to get a center and no UFAs are as good as him except Henrik Sedin. Which is still a possibility. The cap is not going down and probably up in a few years. We had to have something to show to attrack UFAs tomorrow. A good winger will be more interested now instead of Plek as our best to offer.

Please please please please!!!
