Wow you guys are fu+king idots, female dog two years ago when he didnt get him or dury or berie and yes it was the same money. So he now trades for him and theres the female dogn again. Your like a old lady.
I like higgins but the the word is he wasnt taken the offer and looking to go to abritration.
A prospect is just that till hes proven in the nhl, wasnt shown that his time was coming any time soon so lets see if its greener on the other side for him.
Scott is the type of guy that will be a good leader, learned from some of the best in NJ and will get back to that type of player again now that hes out of that mess in NY.

Its one day away from the flood gates and you idiots thinks its over.

Heres an idea, if you want a french Canadian super star go watch tampa, there in need of fans big time.

who the fuck wanted Gomez 2 years ago???? NO ONE!!!!
he's a second liner making 8 million. and Gainey gives up our BEST (frank)ING prospect for him? this is the stupidest made he has made. it's dumber than anything Houle ever did.

people really need to realize what we just gave up in McDonagh. enjoy watching Scott Gomez loaf around the ice feeding an equally aloof Andrei Kostitsyn. what an absolute joke this trade is.

Dont you Habs fans get it yet? Nobody wants to sign with Montreal as UFA's! It has been so evident in recent years yet for some reason you people just do not see it! Gainey has to make trades to bring decent players in because no person that has a choice wants to go to Montreal!...

So with that being said Gainey had to do something and he did just that. He took a roster player (Higgins) and dealt him for an upgrade of Gomez. Giving up McDonaugh is nothing more than a 50/50 chance that the kid turns out. I have actually read that he is not getting better to make the jump to the NHL anytime soon. Maybe he pans out maybe he doesnt but until that time comes for him this deal is a win for the Habs. Like I said, they just made their roster better...

Yah Gomez's contract is not a great one, but Montreal has enough young players to be able to take it on...

If they were gonna trade for Vinny it was gonna be players like Higgins, Pleks, Markov, Subban, picks etc involved. It would have crushed your team and you would not have been able to find suitable replacements in free agency bc like I said no one wants to sign there!...

Gainey in my mind did what he had to do and the only thing he could do.

Well, leaving the office now, on a final note....

Habs fans, you are utterly pathetic! You whined for NOT signing Gomez in the past, you whine about your FIRST PLACE TEAM two seasons ago, you whine about one of the best young 'tenders in the game in many many years, you whine whine whine whine...get your act togeither.

YOU are the reason that players don't want to sign in Montreal. It's not Gainey, it's not management, it's not that the players underachieve...it's YOU, the horrible horrible Habs fans that are destroying your own team. I can hear you booing Gomez already and then wonder why in 3years he won't re-sign.

One thing is for sure, you should get on your knees and thank Kovalev when he re-signs after your total mistreatment of that star also...

pathetic...the lot of ya.

Younger, capable of scoring 80 plus points (koivu is in the twilight of his career), and controls the puck well down deep, oh yeah, is great in the defensive end as well. Did we overpay, yes!!!

I have to say that I am excited to see Gomez play in a habs uni next season

Relax Habs fans.
Yes Gomez is overpaid, but he still better than Koivu (who can't play more than 15 mins) and Plek. He's fast and in his prime. NYR had one of the worst PP last year. Gomez with Markov and Kovy should bring us a decent PP.

Even more, we didn't pay that much.
Higgins was ready to be moved. Period. I'm sure we won't miss him. Always injured. Problems off the ice. Good for him!
McDonaugh, I guess BG realized that they made a wrong pick at the draft and that the kid was not developping as fast they tough he should. Personnaly, he didn't impressed me at all during the World Juniors Championships. For God sake, even Subban was better then him! He may even never make it to the NHL. We'll see. Of course, if he does and succeed, it will be a bad trade for the Habs.

At the end of the day, we're better then yesterday. Imagine if they sign Hossa or Havlat to play with him!

EDIT: there are people there saying they traded for Gomez, to trade him back to Tampa for lecavalier. do they even know what money is ?? all those talks about lecavalier getting traded was because of his huge contract. and we would trade the most overpaid player to them ??

People need to calm down.
This is not the worst trade ever. Its not a great trade, but its something. WE gave up McDonagh who might never pan out (and has not been impressing aparently) Valentenko who is lost in the KHL and Janik for Gomez who, while WAY overpaid, isnt THAT bad. I don't like him, but we should wait and see till we all get the pitch forks and torches out.
People were begging for a move, and they got one.

First, Kovy wants to play the RW. It's his office.
second: Tanguay is not coming back... you know the size aspect and the no-offer..
3rd. Laperiere is not something we need.
4th ( should've been first) Pleckanec is not our first line center.
Beauchemin will probably be a ducks now that Pronger is out.. .else, i'd see him a Leafs.. just to piss us off. lol
5th: PAc ??? PAthces issss so the nick name. Get on with the new program.

Where's Kostopoulos??? the Heart ans soul or our 3rd line last year!

The Sedins have signed in Vancouver (which Bob Gainey probably knew prior to making this trade); Vinnie isn't budging; so it's either Marleau, Gomez or taking a run at Antropov for a centre. Given that Gomez had success in NJ under a system similar to Martin's, this trade makes some sense (though I'm not sure why McDonaugh was in the deal--the Habs are helping the Rangers with their cap situation).
