Sources say Carter has met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly on a number of occasions - most recently in March to discussion his group's purchase strategies. But thus far, the Atlanta Spirit Group - the parent company for the Thrashers - have shown little or no interest in Carter's pursuit and because of this, Carter and his company Atlanta Sports Entertainment have moved on to explore other potential NHL opportunities.

In the meantime, Carter is working on a number of other projects, including the development of a pilot for a one-hour weekly television drama series, as well an animated show he's hoping to soon launch.

Carter is also the co-founder of a clothing line called SOMB, which stands for "Shirt off my Back," a company that donates a school uniform to a needy child in Africa each time an item of the SOMB line is sold
