Some people freak about GMOs, it's largely pseudo-science backing their fears and certainly on the balance the science has had a major beneficial impact globally.

However, Monsanto is a decidedly evil company and is worth avoiding iMO because of their practices - you cite their deck stacking and abuse of local farmers for one, they also create these crops to work with their proprietary pesticides, which have a long history of delirious effects on ecology and the people who have been exposed to them.
