An Allentown man ran from police during a traffic stop on Sunday night and had to be subdued with a Taser, according to court records.

After he was handcuffed, Jermaine Buster Davis Sr., 19, told police, "I should have stopped but I was too high," according to court records. Davis told police he smoked a little bit of marijuana, but "that's all," according to court records.

According to a criminal complaint:

An Allentown police officer on patrol at 10:33 p.m. in the area of 11th and Walnut streets saw a car spinning its tires, creating a large amount of white smoke. The officer attempted to stop the car by activating his emergency lights and siren, but the driver sped off.

The car stopped on Howard Street north of Walnut Street and the driver got out and fled on foot. A police officer chased him, ordering him to stop. He ran to a parking lot in the 1000 block of Walnut Street. The driver still wouldn't listen to orders to stop, so a police officer fired his stun gun to stop him.

Police said he had a strong odor of marijuana

Davis, of Howard Street, was charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, escape, driving without a license and reckless driving. He was arraigned by District Judge Robert Halal andreleased after posting $10,000 bail.
