So you think the two largest emitters (China & India) of GHGs from coal fired electrical generating plants are "good guys".

Well, the cartoon is presenting Obama as a fool for trying to protect the environment, and many conservatives are deniers of science, logic, compassion, etc., it's fairly obvious that they're being framed as the superior option.

just noticed that barack is a worse president that GWB.

good stuff.

Under Obama, the US has seen healthcare reform, human rights reform- with respect to the LGBT community, increased efforts for environmentalism, ended a war(that served no real purpose in the first place), all while fighting with a conservative party that refused to give an inch, even knowing that their actions were harming the country.

Probably the best president since Reagan- and at a similar level as him.

Yeah because the Air in one country never moves to another country.

Don't get me wrong, shutting down coal fired generating plants is a good thing for lowering GHGs, but the impact on the economy is undeniable. But if the two biggest emitters are starting up two the three brand new coal fired generating plants every week, the number shutdown in the US is not going to make any noticeable difference.

Remember, the percentage of Human generated GHGs comprise only 2% of the Atmosphere.

I wonder how many times you're going to post that completely meaningless picture.

But what is the cost to the economy? Just curious... because on a per MWh basis, Nuclear, wind, and hydro are either at the same level as or cheaper than coal burning plants.

Why would cheaper, cleaner energy hurt the economy?

Putting the coal mining industry out of business would increase unemployment, and those jobs would never come back. It is what I would call a "Sunset industry" and eventually will be phased out as cheaper forms of reliable electricity generation come on line.

Market forces at work.

but construction and maintenance of the other plants would create lots of jobs.

And if that solar roadways fantasy ever comes true, that's a metric (frank)ton of jobs added to the economy, for cleaner energy and an improved infrastructure.

In any case, saying the jobs would never come back is a falsehood. The communities based on coal mines may dry up, but over time the people will move elsewhere, likely to larger cities, and find work there. North America is full of ghost towns that were abandoned after their main income source dried up.

I totally agree with that assessment. I'm quite familiar with the Canadian Pulp and Paper industry, which had seen many Mills shutdown in eastern Canada, over the past decade and those high-paying union jobs are gone forever, replaced by Mills in China.

It had become cheaper, for a number of reasons, to make newsprint/specialty papers in China, ship it to Vancouver, send by rail to cutting facilities in Montreal and supply the same customers as before.

Those jobs may be gone, but others open up, and people find employment elsewhere. That's the way it goes.

Canada's unemployment rate has been trending downwards for 30 years.

The point is that left wing progressives are buying into the myth that Obama is doing something positive for the environment and in lowering GHGs globally. But in fact he is a poseur, not a doer.

Currently the U.S. gets almost 40% of its electricity from coal (Canada only 11% from coal) and in that sense in so far behind what PM Harper has already done.

What Obama is proposing is for 2030, and for that he gets all the accolades from the left wing progressive media.

During his administration the U.S. has approved and built enough new oil and gas pipelines to encircle the Earth — except for Keystone that is, because it's the poster-child for the environuts.

But he's portrayed as the anti-pipeline President, but meanwhile under his watch U.S. coal exports are at all time record record breaking levels, so Obama isn’t reducing emissions, he's exporting them to China and India.

Why does the left wing progressive media not point these facts out to low information voters?

Meanwhile in the private sector the use of fracking to convert some coal-fired electricity plants to natural gas plants also goes unreported, because it does not fit into he left wing progressive narrative.....windmills/solar panel good.....oil/gas bad!!!!!

Yes, but even you can appreciate that high-paying unionized Pulp & Paper jobs that buoyed the economy of a Town like Cornwall being replaced with McJobs and Walmart minimum wage jobs is not gong to improve the economy of Cornwall.

since when does fracking go unreported?

And if the coal jobs still exist, how is he hurting the economy?

Well these people need to get better educations to get better jobs, or live within the means of the minimum wage.
