Bruins Acquire Matt Marquardt

The Bruins exchanged Jonathan Sigalet, a 22 year old defenseman with a bright future, for 20 year old Matt Marquardt, a 20 year old forward (soon to be 21, this July) drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Sigalet was +20 with the Providence Bruins last season and is definitely a solid two-way defence prospect. Sigalet is, however, not overly large and would likely have to wait for quite some time to see NHL action with the Boston Bruins due to the quality of defensce prospects within the Bruins organization. Peter Chiarelli, who has committed to the idea of bringing more size to his forward lines, was likely interested in Marquardt due to his size – he is 6’3” and 222lbs – and his scoring upside.
Both Sigalet and Marquardt were drafted in later rounds (fourth and seventh respectively) and have shown quite a bit of progress since that time.
My take on this is that I am somewhat disappointed to see Jonathan Sigalet go but I am also quite happy to receive a forward like Matt Marquardt. In all, if both of these prospects work out for their clubs – and I see no reason why they wouldn’t - this could be a very equitable exchange. I do think Jonathan Sigalet is farther along and likely more of a lock to achieve a regular spot in the NHL but with the upside, size and aggression of Marquardt, I can’t complain too much about this trade.
Let’s face it, the Bruins need more puck moving defensemen and Sigalet is that, but the Bruins also could use more goal scoring in their system. Only time will tell whether or not this was a good trade but looking on the face of it right now, I think this trade will work out well for both clubs.
I am taking some time off from blogging (which perhaps some of you have noticed) and I will return with regularity likely within a week. I will, however, post takes and commentary on any large moves the Bruins happen to make during that time.

Off topic, but holy crap did you see that Chi vs Det game today.
No way Flames can compete with those to bad boys
Third period onslaught was insane by Chi.
Howard will be twitching for weeks after that.
Holy Shyte
Man, would i ever like to see Beantown and Chitown in the Final
They are by far the 2 most entertaining teams in a long long time.
Van is close, but not quite as fun to watch, if they could lose the drama a rematch would be good too - NEWDOG |

When you build a team, you have to build it with strength down the middle.
Goal should be ok for this team, but center has been a problem. Without strenth down the middle, you will always have a problem with puck possession. Gaustad is the only good center the sabres have and chances are he might be gone at the trade deadline if the sabres don't get him signed up for a couple of more years.
On the trade front, I think from what I have read and I am hearing that
Buffalo should try to get Selanne to help bring Armia along next year.
The question is whether Selanne would like to come to Buffalo and play at least another year. Armia is the read deal, and there is not a Finn out there that does not have respect for Selanne. Could Nummenen convince Selanne to come to Buffalo?
Roy, Miller, Lepold plus a pick may be a deal that has been proposed to get Getzlaf, Hiller and Selanne. Money wise it feels good and it shakes up both teams! Hiller is two years younger than Miller and getzlaf is younger than Roy...so this helps us from that perspective.
A counter offer that includes Myers, may have come back to Buffalo and that is not likey to happen. Murray is not in a position to fleece teams.
Knowing that Armia is the read deal, would anyone deal him with Miller and Roy to get Getzlaf and Hiller plus a pick so that selanne can bring him along in Anaheim instead?....maybe it just ends up being Roy and Armia for Getzlaf....not sure that I would go in this direction either, but its the cost of getting a shake-up done.
Besides Anaheim,
Columbus is definitely a possible trading partner...they desperately need defensive prospects......Buffalo likes Ryan Johansen a lot and two of Weber, Brennan, Pysyk or Person might get us a nice young center in Johansen who played well with Kassian and Foligno last year at the World juniors; Brassard could be had right now for Weber and a pick, but Buffalo cannot fit him in under their cap right now because it may ties us down too much. Vermette would be nice, but ts too much money aginst the cap over the next few years; Prospal could work, but should not cost more than a 3rd pick.
And for whatever reason, NJ's coach likes Roy (who he coached in Kitchener). And after Parise recently made a few comments about his status, you have to figure that he could be had in the right trade (and probably would have followed Calameri if he was in Montreal). What about Roy and Enroth for Parise?
That does not solve our center problem, but it defintely creates excitement.
In Edmonton, Hemsky does not look like he will sign next year, so a pick is what it is going to cost to get him.....Sam Gagner may be a center we could target out of there also for defensive prospects.
Then there is Detroit....they have the cap room and they always like to add a veteran or two at the deadline...Boyes or Hecht could go there perhaps for Miller's brother or Darren Helm or Abdelkader to help create some cap space here.
Montreal is going to dump off a few more players and I bet they would love to get their hands on Gragnani and Gautier Leduc to help appease the clammer for French players. Do Josh gorges or Hal Gill interest anyone?
At this point, I think that Buffalo should be both sellers and buyers....selling to the highest bidder and buying salary and contract term from teams that need a shake-up.
Anyone else have some constructive ideas to suggest for Reiger?
PS. what is the difference between last year's team and this year's team.......veterans Connolly, Grier, Niedermeyer, Rivet, and Montador....replaced by youngsters Leino, boyes, Gragnani, Ehrhoff, Reiger and adam.....somehow we got younger and slower..NO....its puck possession....center down the middle and goal....hope they get the message.

love that people even still do this.
With all due respect Eklund, why not just come out and write a truthful blog about the fact you really don't know anymore anyone of us when it comes to rumors. You demonstrate day after day a general lack of knowledge regarding most NHL teams except for the ones you follow and the rumors that you report on....most days it seems you aren't even trying to make sense. Basically what I am saying is a retarded monkey could throw darts at a board and get more rumors right then you. With that said, there is always lively discussions here with a very user friendly forum. Not to mention some of your bloggers, excluding you of course, are pretty good. - reflex

Dear Garth Snow,
after watching every game this season on NHL center ice, I've decided to do you a favor and offer my services to this team as it's clear that there is plenty of room for improvement past the first line. I will sign a contract at the league minimum and even bring my own equipment (although it is goalie gear)
I have no professional ice hockey experience and have been playing for fun in recreational leagues on and off since I was 16, but mostly ball or roller hockey. That being said, I'll be a good quote and I have my own jersey.
I would prefer to play goalie but its clear that you're in desperate need of help everywhere, so I'll play wherever the muppet you have coaching says I can play. I figure at least the third line, since Brian Rolston has been playing 2nd and 3rd line wing all year, and I won't even ask for power play time, and I'll hustle and backcheck like a fiend although I can't skate backwards well, so don't play me on defense HA!
I'm sure if you can afford to pay Brian Rolston 5 million dollars a season I'll be a much better deal, because I'll stand in front of the net and watch my linemates work the corners, and I'm sure I could hit an empty net as well if you want to play me late in a game.
I'd prefer not to play friday or saturday night as those are date nights, but a lot of your players don't show up to games so I think this is a reasonable offer.
Please respond whenever is convenient, if I don't pick up the phone immediately it's likely because I'm trying to improve my kill:death ratio on battlefield 3, but I will call you back as soon as the round is over
yours truly,
Isles since 6

4) Pavel Datsyuk.....who saw that one coming?! I sure as heck didn't, but I love it. They picked the best player available and threw us all a bit of a knuckle puck. I like that Team Chara didn't go the predictable route.
I did. In fact I tweeted it to NHL and TSN. I also facebooked it, all before hand. Just to prove to all anylists that I am just as if not more capable of their job then the most of them. In fact I got all the picks up untill quick right. Then I got quite lost.
I also chose Eberle to go last and Couture second last because of reasons you said. I was wrong there. But I still gotta toot my own horn for being right, like usual. - ShudBeFamous |
