Folks this is a trade proposal based on rumours about a Briere deal.
Personally, I would rather focus on O'Reilly, but Colorado would probably demand our 1st pick, which would end up being 1st overall.....I would make the deal only if it was a lottery safe pick.

Pegula might be willing to bring Briere back and hope that Briere's playoff type spark ignites now for the Sabres for the stretch run...problem is you have to make the playoffs and one aging player is not going to get this done right now, but could he help start the fire maybe. Get to the playoffs and all of a sudden we all know what Briere is capable of doing there. Next year, we are back to squere one during the season though.

Scenario 1:
Briere and Simmonds to Buffalo
Stafford and Leopold to Philly

Scenario 2:
Briere and Couturier to Buffalo
Leopold, Regher and Adam to Philly

Scenario 3:
Briere to Buffalo
Leopold and McCormick to Philly.

Basically it is a salary dump for Philly as they prepare to take a run at getting Perry or Getzlaf......

Take you pick on the deal....keep in mind Philly will have salary cap issues going forward and everyone knows it.

Personally, I would love to see Hodgson center Simmonds and Gerbe; Briere move in with Pominville and Vanek; Porter on the wing with Ott and Ennis;
Grigorenko rotating with Hecht on a line with Foligno and Kaleta;

Scott to be dressed as a 6th defenseman with Brennan as the PP specialist;
Roll Sekera, Regher, Myers, Ehrhoff, with Weber and Pardy as your 3rd pairing.

Youd give this 10 games and if it does not work, start trading out quantity and picks for quality like O'reilly and do so by making room on defense for McNab and Pysyk and up front for Flynn (and Tropp next year) and Armia and Girgensons.

That is why we need to take everything...

Look at the last game with the Dirty Midgets... Ref calls a boarding from a hit from the side 5 mins & Game and the team lost their rhythm and never got it back... the next night Leaf gets railed into the boards... and no penalty..

The other night against Boston.. we get a penalty for a hit from behind on a Bruin going hard to the net... meanwhile later on the Leafs are about to score.. gets cross-checked from behind... knocked to the ice no penalty.

I don't think the Refs are cheating I just think it is a cognitive bias... from constantly hearing from insiders that attendance is down in certain places... and they are in tough.. I think it creates that cognitive... bias...

Same as with the Leafs vs the Gretz Kings.. the cognitive bias was that the small market team LA with the big tagged player would be a better showcase in the final.... having two Canadian teams in a final would kill viewers in the US.. especially when they are trying to sign bigger deals down there.

How else could you miss that blatant high stick... and the culprit ends up scoring the winning goal.

Let's face it the Leafs never play on an even playing field.. when we are small and highly skilled... clutch and grab is allowed.. when we bulk up.. we get penalties for playing tough and clean...

If we are ever to get a Cup.. it will be by force... and I assure you when we win one that team will be so strong.. that we will win a few in a row..

Paranoid is when it doesn't happen on a regular basis.. like I said.. around the time the Leafs had one of the best run and gun teams like NJ.. who can barely sell-out a game.. were allowed to clutch and grab.. and bully their way to a couple of cups.. as soon as the Leafs got big.. & feisty.. clutch, pound & grab were taken away...

As for the US v Can thing it happens to all Canadian teams.. just not the Leafs.. it is guaranteed that CBC, TSN, & Sportsnet will have big bucks for them in every negotiation.. but to get bigger deals in the US and to thereby fattening up most pockets of the owners.. having an all Canadian final would not be good for business.

Like I said I don't think it is outright cheating... I think it is a cognitive bias.. and when instructions come down from the league... they are more sensitive to point out areas that are affecting their US teams..

A quick example was Domi hit Neidmayer with an elbow... after he had been carving faces all series against Toronto... he got 28 games..

Kaberle.. who is one of the nicest players to ever play the game... got leveled way behind the play worse than Neidmayer because he didn't see it coming.

Jansen got 8 games...

The only differences was one was a playoff game.. the other regular season game when NJ was getting barely 8000 in attendance... at the time.. not too mention that Neidmayer had a nasty streak in him.. that deserved some payback.. and Kaberle never hurt a fly.

Now the cognitive bias I talk about just isn't against the Leafs.. it is against all Canadian teams... and to answer Arctic.. the Leafs are one of the least penalized teams this year... the difference is this team plays pretty clean.. they do the right things like move their feet.. so you get very few hooks.. they are not a dirty checking team even though they are near the top in hits...

These Leafs are hard but clean.. for the most part.

Was it shocking that against the dirty midgets we have played them 3 times this year.. and the goalie has been run.... like 20 times.. and even tho Reimer was concussed last season.. still no penalties called.

Yet when we barely graze another keeper and I have Rask in mind.. a goal is disallowed...

Also in the fisticuffs with the Habs.. we always seemed to get the extra penalty.. even tho Grabo was jumped from a guy from behind.. and Orr.. too... and we got the extra penalties...why do the Refs feel they have to protect the dirty midgets... when they instigate.. everything and then fall over to get a PP...

I watch a lot of games... and I know calls can go either way... and appreciate that being a homer.. I will see more against... but when you get to see as many games as I have.. and have some of the worst calls before you it goes from paranoia to being factual.

BTW Sanford... I didn't take offence and thought it was a logical question.. I tried to give you a substantial answer but we could talk about it for days.. in realtime... because I watch other games.. just not Leaf ones... I am gauging it against what I see... the officiating is inconsistent this year.. more so than in others... but have been happy with Shan's work on suspensions.. under Colin.. Grabo would've been suspended.. but Shan saw it for what it was.. he face cranked him as the third man in.. and altho he didn't condone it... even with the medical reports that were from left field.. as it was a Montreal Doctor that filed them.. he made the right choice.. and that was.. if you face crank a guy like that expect to be bitten.. and we won't see it because you cranked him so well.
