Hall is a fantastic hockey player, but his ability to crack the team Canada roster gives you a clear indication of how he is perceived from other GM's in the hockey world. When the Oilers were able to draft Puljujarvi it made Hall their best tradable asset. If you look at Hall's production when McDavid was in the lineup and not injured, there was definitely a decline. In fairness to Hall, he made a great effort to step back and let McDavid take the spotlight, but when he has always been the lead horse on any hockey team he's been on, it could not have been easy. When you have a team like the Oilers that has been able to draft 1st 4 times, it tends to happen that you have a grave possibility of getting the best player that has been the best on any team he has been on. So it definitely affects the psychology for the player that is no longer the best on the team. When you look at a player of Adam Larsen's ability and tract record, its very exciting to think of how good he has been defensively in the NHL and how good he was offensively in all the leagues prior to the NHL, with many scouts comparing him to Nik Lindstrom before he was drafted. When you compare with what they have in Larsen with an established defensive game, and working on offence instead of having a Justin Schultz that was good offensively and they were going to teach him defence, which didn't work out too well. When you also consider the salary cap implications of having Larson locked up for 5 years at 4.16 million as compared to Hall at 4 years at 6 million and the next contract that would more than likely exceed 8 million a year also had huge implications on the trade. I think the Oilers could foresee Hall would likely not be affordable with the current roster that they have after the four years is up. When you look at what all of us Oiler fans are going to miss from Hall not being in the lineup anymore would not have been replaced if it had been Larson and a second round pick that the Oilers had received for Hall. The fact is still the same: Hall is not an Oiler anymore!

Before he usual leaf drones come in, I want to preface my comments by saying that I'm a leaf fan, but this generic shanabore regime has turned me off the leafs for the first time since becoming a fan decads ago.
