For the record, I wouldn't trade Byfuglien for Kaberle straight up. It's not all about points. - Shutdown
he also has a goal in 5 straight playoff games, 3 being game winners. As I said before, that is quite possibly the worst trade ever proposed on hockeybuzz |

I know you are happy because this magical time of year is upon us. That time when you can take the time to tell us how great the leafs will be via some intangibles like "gelling" or "pushing each other" or "competitiveness" and there is absolutely 0% chance that the team will step on the ice tomorrow and prove you wrong.
Fans like you did it last year when the team you described as "vastly improved" sold the future only to see themselves plummet even further in the standings. Did you make mention of how Kessel would see his goal production drop (but I thought he was young and only getting better? I thought he was NOT a product of Savard?) What about your captain-in-waiting who has gone from 60-45-30 points and from a lock for team Canada to a spectator at the Olympics? Shall we attach some intangibles to them too?
What about a year ago when every possible name was being thrown out for that #7 pick except for the guy who was actually chosen... now he becomes the chosen one. Like I said, it just goes on and on.
Laugh at the Habs if you will but consider this. These last three seasons will appear nowhere in the Habs history as great teams. Yet somehow they did something the Leafs have never done - finish first in a conference - and this post season they matched the crowning achievement of winning two whole playoff rounds; crowning in that it represents the most rounds the Leafs have ever won ....ever.
When a little patch of Hab mediocrity represents what would be historic for the Leafs it is probably time for you to stop chirping. But meh, who am I to rob you of this - the greatest time of year for leaf fans!

I am personally locking down Howard's threads for a while.
Howard Berger is my friend. Howard Berger was one of the first in the mainstream media to believe in me. During the lockout, when no one but Howard was working harder, we quickly realized we shared a passion for the getting the story out and hockey back on the ice. When it's time to ask questions in a Maple Leafs scrum, Howard Berger often has the role of asking the first question and breaking the ice. That, in our world, is a position earned, and to have have earned such a distinction in what is unquestionably "The Hockey Media Capital of the World" tells you all you need to know about Howard. In a city where many find it "hip" to trash Eklund or complain that my rumors make them have to actually work and call up GMs to check them out, Howard has stood by me.
I don't always agree with his opinions on the Leafs, and he doesn't always agree with mine. But it never once has gotten in the way of our professional relationship. He is often critical of Leaf fans and the team. I get how that rubs people the wrong way. I myself have thought there were times he went too far. But this is his blog. And as long as I am the person who runs hockeybuzz Howard will have a space to write his opinions and thoughts.
I wont however allow the lunatics and the idiots to build themselves up anymore by being disrespectful and lewd towards Howard personally. It's ashame that a very few have made me lock Howard's threads for those of you who really do want to talk Leafs hockey. Hopefully, after some time has passed, we can once again open them up.
If you disagree with this you can email me at - Eklund or call my cell at 215-240-7792. I am not doing this lightly. It is with much thought and consultation with others on the web.
This is a growing trend recently.
One of my favorite site Engadget.com turned off all of their comments for a period. I will leave you with their explanation, which I could almost use word for word...
Thank You for Reading and Understanding.

"Hey guys, we know you like to have your fun, voice your opinions, and argue over your favorite gear, but over the past few days the tone in comments has really gotten out of hand. What is normally a charged -- but fun -- environment for our users and editors has become mean, ugly, pointless, and frankly threatening in some situations... and that's just not acceptable. Some of you out there in the world of anonymous grandstanding have gotten the impression that you run the place, but that's simply not the case.
Luckily, our commenting community makes up only a small percentage of our readership (and the bad eggs an even smaller part of that number), so while they may be loud, they don't speak for most people who come to Engadget looking for tech news. Regardless, we're going to crank things down for a little bit to let everyone just cool off, and we'll switch them back on when we feel like we've shaken some of the trolls and spammers loose from the branches (AKA swing the banhammer in our downtime). See you on the other side!"

Indeed, Plus Burkie would be doing them such a huge favor maybe Chicago could throw in a first rounder or two. |
