A few epic ones in Matthew Barry's last Kovy thread. Here's the latest
You two chirping morons should be banned from the internet. I mean, really. I attack a dopey guy who says Kovalchuk should just take whatever the Kings offer, because it's so many millions and you come back with saying I'm a schoolkid? Didn't I attack you two about 47 posts ago for acting like schoolchildren? Well I guess I was right, cause the only half-funny things you say are a complete copy of what I say.
Here's the bottom line. People telling a player to just take the offer cause it's so much money or cause they need to be loyal to a team are IDIOTS. It's just as fair, maybe MORE fair to tell the team to give up some of it's millions ALL EARNED because people in suits and ties pay 100 bucks a seat to watch Kovalchuk play. You see the point, morons? KOVALCHUK is who the fans pay to see. Why can't he earn what the market will bear? He's been in the league long enough in poopty Atlanta to earn the right to UFA. He's 27 and getting 13 year offers. I think he gets the right to shop his ass around the league and take the best offer from the team he likes the best. And if they clam up on him or start slinging mud in the press, then (frank) em, he'll go elsewhere. It's in the COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT the owners signed. So the people that need to shut up are the people female doging at a player for treating this like the purchase of a new car. And the two mentally challenged Kingloving jocksniffers who go by the retarded names of a childhood loss of emotional control and one of the worst back up midget goaltenders of all time. DIE. |

Well Mr. Pathetic, can you please quote the CBA where it says that it is 100% over and above the existing salary? No you can't; it means that the qualifying offer has to be at least the SAME salary as the player was making the year prvious; NOT DOUBLE!!! A$$clown.
But please POST AGAIN SO WE CAN ALL GO THROUGH IT.........AGAIN!!!

i'll agree with mr. jones on this one, it's really bugging me when people talk about 110% raises when they mean 10% raises. |

I think having a 6.5 mil cap hit for a top 5 player in the league, for the next 15 years is a pretty great move.
in 5 years, 6.5 mil will be like 5 mil in comparison to where the market will be at and the cap going up. in 10 years that 6.5 mil will be like 3.5 mil in comparison, he'll be 37 and still productive. Heck in 15 years, he may simply retire and that'll be the end of it.. or he'll be 40-42 and that 6.5 hit will seem like 2.5.
of course this is assuming that prices of everything continue to rise and the cap continues to go up over the years.
so yea, we'll have that 6.5 hit when he's in the twilight of his career, but it will seem like much less. And for the immaculate player we'll have for the next 10 years, i think its worth it.. and 6.5 isn't a HUGE strain on our cap. Rolston's 5 will be off the books in 2 years, Elias will be making 3 instead of 6 mil in 3 seasons. Arnott's 4.5 will be gone, Yes Parise will more than double his salary.. Zajac will eventually get a raise or be let go if Henrique or Josefson look like #1, #2 centers... but i think NJ will keep him to play with Parise.
SO.. in 5 years, NJ's cap situation should look something like this. I imagine Parise not getting a 15 year deal, maybe 7 years, so a larger cap hit
Parise 7
Kovalchuk 6.5
Zajac 5
Volchankov 4.25
Elias 3
Greene 3
Josefson 2.5
Tedenby 2.5
Henrique 2.5
Zharkov 2
Corrente 2
Urbom 1.5
Burlon 1.5
Young/Taormina/GelinasMerril 1.5
Palmieri 1.5
Goalie from the system, 3.5mil
backup 1mil
=50.75
this leaves about 6 mil, based on the current cap of about 57k. I assume it will go up to 60k in 5 years, so that will leave NJ with 10 mil to fill out the roster with UFAs, other signings, resignings etc.
my projected lineup in 5 years
Parise-Zajac-Palmeri
Tedenby-Josefson-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Zharkov
Hoeffel-McIntyre-rookie
Volchenkov-Greene
Corrente-Urbom
Burlon-Gelinas/Taormina/Merrill
Frazee? Clermont? Wedgewood? UFA?
Backup
also keep in mind in 5 years, NJ will also have 3-5 more 1st round picks, if they're not packaged in trades.
With that said, NJ has a handful of prospects that won't be able to make the NHL roster. Vasyunov is a LW sniper who has the potential to be a 2nd line guy. There will be a logjam at defense, especially if we resign Greene, which i think we should. Taormina lit it up in the minors last season. Burlon and Urbom are projected to be very good 2nd pairing players. Corrente is projected to be a #2-4 dman. Gelinas is an x-factor that is big hit or miss. And Merrill looks like a beast. Young captained the Spitfires, amongst all those other talented players!!
maybe Lou keeps these kids for when Volchenkov and Elias retire but still... in 5 years we'll already have at least 5 more NHL ready prospects obtained through the draft ready to compete for spots.
AND SO, I conclude, getting Kovalchuk AND keeping Parise... does NOT put NJ in any cap hell. Aging Elias+Rolston+Arnott = 15.5 cap hit!!! In their primes, Parise+Kovalchuk in 3 years will = 14! No worries here.
AND, if we get Kovalchuk, i'm also very open to trading for Kaberle... which i've discussed b4 so won't bother writing another essay on. |

You are such a (frank)ing idiot. You come on here and cry and wail when Latendresse was traded away. "They never gave my wet dream a chance" "he needs top players" Blah blah (frank)ing blah. You and fido sucking each other's cocks over Latendresse's (frank)ing goals after he is traded. For (frank)ing months we have to listen to your eternal sonata on Gui's departure and your broken french (frank)ing heart.
Guess what, cum-dumpster? This is the exact same scenario. A young prospect is being given a chance. Just like your precious Gui. Maybe if your head was so full of fantasies of actually touching a women who is not screaming for help and crying, you would see that giving up on a 22 your old goalie is (frank)ing stupid. - desi08
