It is not even what would qualify as the pre season , yet, Everyone from the casual blogger, to the Ultimate Fake who I will not even mention who has a 1 for 5 record in rumors, seem to love harping on the Flames for how things have gone post season.
I though am not among the haters. I love what the Flames have done in the post season.
1) The Phaneuf Trade. We got more in Return for less. Phaneuf Stopped Giving a damn about the Flames organization the very minute he was NOT selected to be on Team Canada. Prior to that, he was allstar Material, however, his ego, like some players, got the best of him and the love of the game took second place to whining. I am glad to see him gone, to a team who is at least a Decade away from being any kind of cup contender, let alone, 5 years away from even having a playoff spot. Now he is the Captain..Makes me wonder what Brian Burke is thinking...lol
2) Bringing in Tanguay And Jokinen: Great Idea in my books. Tanguay made his career with Calgary, and as a playmaker, I see him feeding Iggy and Olli the puck more often than any other player that has been on Iggy's line. They both Belong in a Flames Uniform. Olli was traded away mid deason, before even showing that he is the man. Now he has the chance to prove it. Tanguay is now under a coach who will actually let him Thrive and Flourish, and with Keenan a thing of the past, Alex can do what he loves to do, which is Play and Win
3) Henrik Karlsson: The Sharks have given us another future star. What else can be said. A young swede who under Kipper will be a fabulous backup to Kipper..The Man
THN is reporting rankings for the Western Conference. Basically, they Place the Canucks in 1st and The Flames in 8th. Though It is not an ideal ranking (I'd love to see the Flames 1st), We all know that in the Past Decade, the Canucks can not beat us Flames. Hello and goodbye Round One. Hello Round 2 for the Flames, Hello Golfing for the Canucks.
Sutter Bringing in Jay Feaster was Brilliant. This means sutter can groom him to the GM duties for the Flames, and likely (hopefully) remove himself as GM of the Flames, and concentrate solely on his VP of Operations duties. Feaster has the 2004 Cup experience under his thumb, and can use that experience to make the Flames a solid Cup Contender for the next few years at least!!
Now onto all the talk and hate regarding the Heritage Classic and the Jerseys the Flames Selected. I am more than sick and tired of all the McDonalds jokes. Mostly, all this hate and all these jokes are being made by people who know nothing about Calgary's hockey history. Some keep asking "Why Not The Atlanta Flames Logo?" The simple Answer is: The Atlanta Flames Have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CALGARY FLAMES AND CALGARY HOCKEY HISTORY."
The Jersey is a combination of the Current Flames Logo, the Flaming C, and the Calgary Tigers of the 1920s and 1930s. The Last Team in Calgary, Prior to the Calgary Flames, To compete for the Stanley Cup. The Heritage Classic is commemorating the Cup Battles that Happened between the Calgary Tigers and the Montreal Canadiens in 1924. and also, The Cup Battle of 1989. We are tied in wins in that regard with the Habs. They won in 1924, and the Flames won in 1989. Calgary has a storied History with the Habs that many overlook out of lack of knowledge or common sense.
So, We are weeks away from the Preseason, and I remain Optimistic as always. Game 1 is a Split Squad game. Half the Squad hosting the Canucks at the Dome, and Half the Squad playing at Rogers Arena. Both Running Simultaneously. Do not be shocked or surprised when the Flames Squads win both Games.
Be even less surprised when the Season opener at Rexall results in the Flames Again Doing as they always do, Beating the Oilers.
And the Home opener at the Dome hosting the Kings...flames will go 2 and 0 in their first 2 games. A taste of what IS TO COME for the Flames all season long.

U_G, I'm re-posting this because I'd like to talk to you like a rational human being. Last time, it seems you got hung up on one spelling mistake (sorry if my grammar isn't perfect... I'm typing this out on a phone. I guarantee that will not be the only typo I make) and ignored the entire body of my argument.
Perhaps you could respond to it using some logic and reason and not just some snippy, lame deflection. I assume you're an adult, so act like it. Here is my post again (the offending spelling mistake is removed for your reading convenience, professor):
This whole thought exercise (ie. Comparing players from different drafts and pretending they're all 18) is a totally hypothetical and pointless argument to begin with. And I'm the crazy one because I dare to use the only verifiable, proven NHL track record we have available to make a more informed decision?
Yes, if you throw out the career achievements of the one guy who is actually in the NHL and reset the clock to some magical time when they were all 18 and in the same draft, maybe Hall and Seguin would be ranked higher.
But Daigle was also ranked higher than Pronger. Stefan was 1st overall in his draft. Kopitar was 11th in his. Where would those guys stack up against each other? Who really cares? After the draft, the rankings are tossed out the window and players are assessed based on what they do from that point on.
In my opinion, Kessel has accomplished quite a bit in a very short period of time. Can Hall and Seguin do the same? Maybe. But I don't see either of them clearly outperforming Kessel over the course of their NHL careers. If they do, it will be by the slightest of margins.
That you don't even acknowledge Hall and Seguin's reasonable limits and disregard Kessel's still growing potential (even a modest projection over the next 3 years puts his goal totals at 40+ in his prime) is clear evidence that you will never see the possible benefit of a trade such as this.
What it comes down to is trading a little upside for the absolute certainty of NHL production, even if Kessel's numbers at their peak may not be as high as Hall or Seguin's. But that's the trade-off: do you want to gamble with the pick that could outperform Kessel, or do you go with the safer option?
That's a perfectly reasonable question to pose. NL GMs are always trying to get the most complete, accurate information they can on every player in the draft to try to predict their future value. I believe that if GMs this year knew what they'd be getting with certainty from a player like Kessel, most would go for him.
This isn't passing up a Crosby or an Ovechkin or a Malkin for Kessel's guaranteed production. In that case, you'd probably take your chance on the pick because the calibre of prospect is so good.
No, this is Kessel's known production and potential vs. Hall or Seguin's largely unknown potential. Even at their peak potential, they may only outperform Kessel slightly. In that scenario, the certainty and securityof the known commodity is more valuable when weighed against the risks, in my humble opinion.

How about mod trolls? Who are you to tell people what they can and cant discuss on a open internet forum? Ever hear of the 1st amendment toots? While you are busy looking up the 1st amendment, why dont you get yourself a life while you are at it. Must be nice to have a little ban button and order people around like you are something special. When if fact you are nothing but a twat with a ban button. So get the phuck over yourself, and get a life and that's a topic you should be surely sticking to, and one we can all agree on... - beerisgod!!!

Hey Eklund, how many hits do you think you're losing by locking all of Berger's blogs?
How much money are you losing by catering to Howerd Berger's thin skin? Is Berger really any kind of hockey mind, if he cant handle honest critisism? (Or even dishonest critisisim?)
I mean really. He cuts up this Toronto team, in every single blog. Every one. But when he's challanged by even 1 person, he forces you, as the administrator of this site, to lock his thread, and quite literally take money directly from your pocket. Food, directly from your family's mouths.
Do you think he's making you money right now? Thats an honest question. Do you really think Howerd Berger is bringing you hits?
Your hits arent even generated by your blogs. Your blogs may generate interest, but the following hits to your site are generated by the discussion your 'fanbase' provides. And I use the term Fanbase very loosely.
I have a good time here, but when I'm not allowed to speak my opinion on an open forum designed for open forum discussion, I question the integrity of the site. I question the integrity of the blogger, and I question the integrity of the administration.
If you like, you may PM me. I'm quite eloquent, I will update my blog more frequently, and can handle being called out on a frequent basis while defending myself with relevant points regarding my debates.
Berger isnt hurting your site, but youre paying him for nothing. He's not helping either.
You can do better, believe it or not.

This is the most intriguing type of rumour. A threesome (oops, three-way) is always very appealing, and while it's likely that everyone gets screwed, it's not guaranteed that everyone's needs are satisfied.
The first thing to look at is who might be up for it. You have to be worried though (if you are Montreal) that the other two don't go and have their own little one-on-one behind your back. So that Habs have to find a partner who wouldn't be interested in getting a Clowe-job too. So who'd be willing to let Montreal get the Clowe while giving up a rearguard and a backstop for a young kid who's sick of being jerked around by his team's fan base and management.
Would a division rival participate in such a triste? Who has a D-man solid enough for Clowe, AND an expendable man in a mask. Enough of the euphemisms though.
In the category of teams that have an expendable netminder that could be a #1 for the Habs: BOS, OTT, TOR, NYR, FLA, ATL, EDM, MIN, LA
In the category of teams that have an expendable defenseman that could fill a #2/#3 role on San Jose that could be dealt for Clowe: VAN, LA, TOR, OTT, ATL, EDM, NYR, PHI
Where those lists converge is in: TOR, OTT, LA, ATL, NYR, and EDM.
So now we must eliminate teams that would be not interested in keeping their #1 and dealing the d-man straight up for Clowe. Reasons could include a lot of depth on the wings, a desire to free up cap space to sign RFA's and UFA's, a genuine need to solidify the goaltending position. I'll ignore NTC on the D-men because unless they are really opposed to West Coast travel, the chance to run for the Cup on the Sharks top line must be satisfying enough to waive a NTC.
TOR: With Kaberle sticking around Burke has some juggling room on D. The best candidate for the job is Beauchemin, who hasn't been granted automatic legend status like most Leafs players. Burke has Giggy, Monstersson, and Monstersson 2.0 (Jussi Rynas). But more importantly he has the best goalie coach of our generation to work with Price. The ability to convert Price into a legendary goaltender or at least a highly sought after prospect could be appealing enough to part with one of his two starters for this season. Seeing as Giggy is in the last year of his deal and would be looking for maximum work opportunities, I doubt he would object to moving home and playing 60-70 games before becoming a UFA. The thing is that Clowe is just the type of top 6 forward that Burke has been looking for, why would he help him go to a rival?
OTT: More trouble with rivals. It's no secret that Pascal Leclaire's contract would not be missed in Ottawa, and now that Gonchar is in town and will be showing Karlsson the ways of the force, Kuba is very expendable. For the Sens that's moving $7.5 million off the books, if it means helping a rival in the process I think you have to take that. But again why wouldn't Murray want to add Clowe's grit to the Ottawa offense. Could the opportunity to drop cap be that appealing?
LA: Bernier and Johnson for Price? Why would anyone do that? Lombardi is not foolish. Would anyone call Ersberg (Halak 2.0) a starter?
ATL: Pavelec and Hainsey for Price? Dudley could definitely do this. He has cap space and the opportunity to get a bigger stud in net who has two years to grow under Mason. The Habs get Pavelec who could split the job with Auld or leave enough cap space to bring in another G-man. Hainsey is a solid veteran D-man who I would think at this point would welcome a change and a chance to play on the Sharks top lines. But the Sharks would have to get more methinks.
NYR: Biron and Redden/Rozsival/Girardi. The Rangers need to make room for Staal, the problem is Price is going to gobble up some of those savings and Chad Johnson is a capable back-up/prospect. Price clearly doesn't respond well to attention so why bring him under a different brand of microscope? I'm not sure the Rangers would move King Henrik, but maybe if it meant they could lose Rozy or Redden they might have to consider it, and of course he'd have to consent.
EDM: Khabibulin and Souray. This looks like an obvious deal right? The Oil wants to move Souray, and would covet a solid young goaltender from the West for their new kiddie empire. But why not deal Souray for Clowe and then deal Penner and Khabi for Price? Or some other permutation where they deal separately with the other teams, they must have the assets. And really why does Khabi going to the Habs really get Gauthier? He's still in cap trouble, maybe if JDD was coming also? Just swap goalie units entirely?
On a special note I really wanted to add Florida to this list, Vokoun is very expendable and McCabe or Seidenberg would be a good fit in San Jose, however Florida has no incentive to make this deal with Markstrom in the wings.
The last thing to remember is that Gauthier is that GM in your hockey pool, where he refuses to deal a guy over and over again in the face of an insanely good offer and then turns around suddenly and deals him for what appears to be half of what you were offering. Although maybe with the trend of dumping salary in front of the net, he's a genius in ridding himself of all potential expenses and leaving the door open to fill the net with million-dollar back-ups. |

I honestly do not care if I get a lifetime ban here:
GO (frank) YOURSELF...
You are a (frank)ing wussy plain and simple. Saying I am making it up that my mom passed away. That alone makes you the biggest (frank)ing loser to ever be born. God I wish I could meet you in real life. I really do. I would beat the living poop out of you for that statement, questioning my mother dying. I pray that karma comes your way so soon. And one thing is for sure, you would never question someones mother being dead in person because you know your someone who is attracted to the opposite sex ass would get beaten to a pulp!...
YOU (frank)ING wussy!!!!!!
This ban comes to you from Boston, Mass.
