again on the regular season, the author makes no mentioned of goalies and a minimum amount of games played... so "x" amount of players playing in this data could have been playing in less games than the league average without hitting a certain criteria.... therefore meaning a guy shows up plays 3 games, has good numbers and that is held within the league average.
He needed to use the the league average of say, players who played in 25games or more. In addition, im confused as to why the seasons are clumped together as they are....
also comparing a rookie Osgood vs a 38yr old after their playing days are all but over are included. // and again with no playoff data.
Seems all everyone wants to talk about his his regular season, but never anything about playoffs ....
weird?
my favorite part is his logic about how because he was cost effecient meant he obviously wasnt good... just like Bobby Holik was the best player in the NHL at one time because he got paid 9milion...
just like Scott Gomez is a top 10 in the NHL nowatdays because of his salary...
terrible article to be honest, for a guy who is bragging about his baseball statistical data analysis ability. - BooBoo997 |

First of all, do Geoff Molson, Pierre Gauthier, Larry Carierre, and Trevor Timmins strike you as the kind of people that don't have long-term plans in place for this team?
And even so, last I checked, they're in the business of trying to win the Stanley Cup every year, regardless of what dgrdnr thinks about their ability to do so.
As for the team's future, they may not have "superstars" in the minors, but that's not to say they don't boast excellent depth. They do. They'll prove that in dealing with the current situation they're in.
As for your disbelief in the current model, and your concerns about the team's future and its depth...why are we going there, today, with the Canadiens battling as hard as they are to compensate for devastating blows to their line up?
This team has a core of players that will be here long-term. This team went from 1st in the East, to travesty sweep at the hands of the Bruins in the chaotic centennial disaster, to being completely remodeled and going to the conference finals.
This team has approached this season with the same character as what got them as far last season. They continue to grit through unbearably difficult situations like the one they're currently in.
Cammalleri will be back, and given the importance of the situation and his track record of being a clutch player, he'll likely perform as he's supposed to if he can stay healthy.
Other young players are getting great opportunities to fill scoring roles and build their confidence, so when Cammalleri returns the team has more diversity from an offensive perspective.
Think about the opportunities Pouliot, Eller and Desharnais are getting to develop into the kind of players you want to see.
It's not like they don't have good mentors and role models in the organization. The coach isn't the only person with impact or influence on these players.
This should be the discussion being had, and I'm sure many of you would love to debate some of the points.
Emelin...?
There's a lot more at stake right now than Emelin's future with the Canadiens. And there's certainly no pressing need to bring him to Montreal. Regardless of the contract situation on the blueline. Plenty of money to go around to put a full boat together without Emelin.
And on the defensive side of things, if a spot opens up down the line that Emelin can lay claim to, he'll have to come over here and fight for it.
People that say he's not coming unless he's guaranteed a spot with the Canadiens are ignorant.
He's been a pro hockey player for years in Russia, and well understands that he can't make demands of that nature with the Montreal Canadiens, let alone any other NHL team. And if he happens to be a represented by an agent who believes he can strong arm the Canadiens into opening up a guaranteed spot for the guy who didn't choose to be developed by the Canadiens-- he should fire that agent immediately.
He hasn't come here, not only because he's under contract, but because he wants to be there. Should he decide to come, and the Canadiens will always encourage that he do, he'll have to earn a spot just like anyone else, and be willing to play in the AHL like anyone else. - EricEngels
in response to:
Don't know if it's irrelevant. I already told you I don't believe in your earlier "we are contenders" statement and I believe this management team must be looking at things long term, i.e. post Gomez era...
So talking about next season is not irrelevant. I'm thinking 3 seasons ahead and I think PG et Molson should do the same. Give some candy to the fans so they shut the (frank) up and keep building steadily for the long term plan : winning a cup. - Dgrdnr

Now for the Dallas and Toronto.
Who gets the better end? Dallas. They are getting prevous Stanley Cup winner Kris Versteeg, who all know is not a bad solid 2nd, 3rd liner. He can score and not afraid to throw his body around. They are also getting MacArthur. Not a bad 1.1 mil LW who can produce when he needs too. He will add more of a scoring punch to Dallas. Just what they need? Not really. Is this a trade to ensure they get to the stanley cup? Most likely.
Toronto. I do not even know why they are willing to make this trade. They traded for Phil Kessel two years ago or so. So they are going to trade for another big named center to score? This seems pointless to me, they have thier first line centerman and they are going to go to Brad Richards as the 2nd line? Brad Richards is a great player, he can do it all. But, Toronto is already paying around 5 mil or more to Phil Kessel to be thier first liner and now they went after Richards who makes almost 8 Mil. The point? I'm not sure. On top of that trading away another center. This makes no sense to me.

Untrue. I was a farm pioneer, and nobody has ever been able to stop me. Not the cattle, not space aliens, not the state forestry department, not anybody.
All of which would make great adversaries in your Sim game, by the way. I would know. From experience.
The first thing any herd of cattle does when they break out of their fence is RUN, not walk, but RUN to your garden.
They don't even stop to graze on the luscious grass by the side of the road, nor do they stop to poop. They leave long, spattery trails of manure down the road, relieving themselves as they run for your garden.
Damned cows.
Every day, whenever I saw a cow, I wanted to punch it in the face. Seriously.
Also, if you're going to be a 'farm pioneer,' (god, I love that term) you're going to need a good source of firewood for when the winter kicks in. Because you use a woodstove. Not an oil furnace or any other means of heat.
Sure, you can buy firewood, but you don't have enough money for that sort of thing, because you're a piss-poor farm pioneer.
Sure, you can buy a permit to go out on county land and cut up dead trees, but that costs money.
So, what you do, is you go out on county land and cut up dead trees anyway. So long as your fairly cagey, the forestry can't catch you. Take old, grown in mine roads and nobody will ever find you. When you leave the mine road, pull over and cover your tracks with fresh dirt. If there are tracks there the next day when you return, you know you're being followed and have to lay low.
As a farm pioneer, you spend most of your time starving. You don't actually feel the hunger most of the time, but a single bowl of moica per day leads to malnourishment. Before long, you'll start salivating at the sight of any and all local wildlife. Make friends with bear hunters and they'll occasionally donate big, 20 pound bear liver to you. It's a tasty treat. Also, it's manly!
As a farm pioneer, your truck is a complete rattletrap piece of junk. The transmission is shot, it overheats frequently, the fuel gauge is busted so that it ALWAYS reads completely full, and you frequently find yourself stranded on the backroads, miles and miles away from any populated areas. this absolutely SUCKS, but fortunately the shoeleather express is free. Nothing can stop the farm pioneer.
Also, as a farm pioneer, you generally hate being in town. You're a social recluse, you're face is covered in a thick coat of fur, you haven't taken a shower in a months, and whenever anybody in town sees you they refer to you in hushed voices as 'the mountain man.' People avoid eye contact with you.
Also, every single day some tool, absolutely and completely vital to your survival, will break or go missing. You cry "forward!" out loud and brush such setbacks off. Always keep moving. Nothing's gonna stop you. You're a farm pioneer.
Also, as a farm pioneer, you live in the countryside. This means men outnumber women by roughly 100 to 1, and you'll have to go many months between actually seeing members of the opposite sex. This results in general irritability. If you see a guy with a girlfriend, despite her looks or temperament, you're going to be jealous. Words will be exchanged, a brawl will probably break out. If you win, you have proven your manliness. If you lose, then you go into town and start rumors about said man being a no-good crystal-meth addict. The word will spread around and intensify in the small population like a wildfire and eventually get to the girl, who'll leave him.
Aint a man alive who can stop the farm pioneer. |

Dumb, for lack of a better word, is bad. Dumb is wrong, dumb doesn't work. But dumb, ladies and gentlemen, is spreading. And some of the dumb are trying to make being dumb profitable.
Fountain plunging idiot Cathy Cruz Marrero is suing the mall that allowed her to fall into its fountain when she was walking while texting. She might also sue the security guards that laughed at the video of her falling into the fountain while texting, because humans in mall security uniforms shouldn't be permitted to laugh at morons.
A moron from New York City is suing a Las Vegas escort service for almost $2 million. This is the aftermath of a very dumb phone call he placed to police complaining that his illegal prostitute ripped him off by having illegal sex with him, but not staying for the full three hours for which he paid. His outrage was understandable. Sure, he got the sex, but he paid good money to watch the hooker who just blew him sit around a poopty hotel bored out of her mind and texting people about the guy with the weird Richard that looks like a mini-croissant who is staring right at her. Missing out on that? No wonder he called the cops and got himself in deep poop!
The biggest payday may be coming to a man, let's call him King Moron, who happens to be living in a trailer park in Key West, Florida. He can't spell (frank)ing anything, so he's suing WikiLeaks, and its creepoid-in-chief Julian Assange, for an assortment of grievances including: "indangered the PLAINTIFF as well as every person of the United States; and the entire planet," "suffered serious personan injury," and a "worsening" of "hyper tention." King Moron also has a "fear of being on the brink of Nucliar WAR." He's asking for 150 million "dollors" in damages.
These idiots are never going to win their cases, you might think. Probably not, although that fountain woman has good odds for a settlement since the fountain didn't have a railing. (frank) knows we need to put safety barriers up on everything to prevent every possibly strain of moron from walking, crawling, or pop-locking their way into vents or off ladders or into the deep end of a wood chipper. These presumptuous lawsuits are just another symptom of the problem. This poopty country is getting stupider by the day because we coddle morons. We've come to believe that tolerating stupidity is a part of being tolerant people or, worse, stupidity itself is a virtue.
Blame whoever you want. Blame the media drone or the pundits or the politicians. Blame your parents. It's really happening. There are figures to back this up. The Chinese are kicking our asses.
Do you think some Chinese bumpkin who walks around eating pieces of fuming metal he finds on the floor of the dystopian factory workshop where they make Zu Zu Pets gets to sue when his kidneys fail? No, he gets gassed and his skeleton is sold in the United States. No one wants to marry that guy and have a kid with him and nobody wants to watch his insane TV show or read the book he co-wrote with the woman who screams at the sun. He's a zero. Here in the United States he could be in congress.
poop-for-brains used to be a trait that was eliminated from the gene pool by natural selection, now it's making babies and recording Kraft Macaroni and Cheese commercials. Modern anti-intellectualism is sold as folksy wisdom. Non-knowledge is a skill that takes practice. Every idiot and every idiot's ideas are worth hearing out.
It's snowing, so global warming is fake! Ha ha! Lick some more paint chips, Professor Accuweather, while the world burns. Vaccines cause autism? Sure, maybe! We don't want to hurt anybody's feelings by forcing them to prove it. Better allow weird 19th century diseases to come creeping back into our population because sad celeb mommies had fantasies on their blogs. We definitely don't want to hurt the feelings of someone somewhat credible.
Bling-slinging rappers to stock-shouting CNBC hosts, these are the people who should be thrown into pits, left on mountains to perish, or be crushed beneath monster trucks like so many Japanese cars. And I mean that in a literal drive-over-their-caterwauling-bodies sense, not in a monster-truck-symbols-on-a-map-of-Sunday-Sunday-Sunday sense.
Remember how parents used to be afraid of satanic cults converting kids? This is the actual dangerous cult assuring you that being a beef-stupid yokel is GOOD. Smear yourself in turds and babble about Marxist takeovers; if you're stupid enough, and just loud enough, you might be able to live the new American dream and make yourself rich.
I'll keeping hoping for that purge even if it means I'm the first idiot against the wall.
