Great for the Sabres!
Myers could have made more money in the long term if he had signed for a shorter term. So thank you Tyler Myers for being a great team player and taking less than you could have made. I am excited to have him for years to come. IMO this is the best move of the offseason, locking him up before it came to the point where Doughty and the Kings are now.
I am also excited because I just bought a new Myers jersey, white. I am elated to get back to the traditional look and lose the Banana Slug.
All you detractors who are saying that this is overpaying a young player who has no bargaining power because he is a RFA, and no team would ever give him an offer sheet...
Wake up! Myers is a future star. The kid was raised right and has good character, he is courteous, hard-working, genuine, and mature beyond his years. He will become every bit the player Chara is, and even better. He is a better skater by light years than Chara and has better hands too, Chara does have a better shot IMO.
My point is that you should bet the farm that Myers becomes a perennial All Star, and all star defensemen make 5, 6, 7+ million a year. And lets say that Myers does not pan out and does not get any better than he is now, which will not happen but just because so many are saying this is a risk. If he doesn't, we would have no trouble finding a plethora of teams willing to trade for an above average D man when they only owe him 4, 3.5 and 3 million, especially if they are not up against the cap ceiling where his larger cap hit wouldn't effect them. I shouldn't have to even mention any of this but because there are so many negative bloggers out there I feel I have to defend the signing.
You people who say Myers would NEVER have been given an offer sheet.

We have an abundance of NHL ready defensemen in the system, MAG was named defensemen of the year in the AHL, Schiestel and Brennan were All Stars. If we were to need cap room for any reason I think we could trade Sekera or Leopold and not lose much in replacing them with a smaller salary player. I would like to trade either of them now actually to allow MAG a regular spot on the roster, and to allow Schiestel a chance at 7th defenseman duties.

Congrats to the players and coaches who played in the prospect tourney, that was a real treat to watch, and I was impressed with the players and coaches for coming together so quickly and playing so well. The coaches have only recently met these players and I believe they have only been on the ice together once before this tourney.
