I see where this morning sportsclubstats.com now lists the Leafs at 0% possibility of making the playoffs. It is the first day for them to have been taken off the big board completely. It is over. Does this mean the agony is coming to an end?
- spatso

Actually their Playoff Chances are now sitting at 0.01%

It’s a long standing tradition in Toronto to pile on the wrong guys. Leaf fans ripped Hal Gill to shreds, because he was playing top 4 minutes. On the same team, Andy “Woozer” Wozniewski was eating up significant minutes. Hall Gill was given minutes above his capabilities. He went on to play well for the Penguins, in a depth role with lots of PK minutes. He won a cup there. The same could be said for Larry Murphy. Jonas Hoglund. Leaf fans hated him. He wasn’t terrible. He just wasn’t first line material, and shouldn’t have been on Sundin’s wing. Same with Renberg.

Get some players that actually belong in the roles they’re being played, and it would push guys like Renberg and Hoglund into lines they’d be fine with. And guys like Woozer back to the Swedish, Swiss, or German league, where he would probably excel too. In fact, that’s where most of these guys ended up anyway.

In my opinion, if you’re going to criticize guys, start with the Wozniewskis, the John Pohls, Clarke Wilms, Ben Ondrus, and such, that don’t even belong in the NHL. Replace them with top players, and it’ll make a difference.

What do you see as a plan to bring in "top players"?

Also in regards to the Media, it is just so much more intensifies in toronto because all the major "National" sports networks are based in toronto, and by default they are lumped in, if only in the minds of the local sports franchises in toronto, with all the actual local media in the city.

It will never happen, but if all the "National" sports networks moved and relocated themselves in Vancouver, the spotlight that the leafs feel themselves under would probably diminish enough for them to handle things a bit better.

It has nothing to do with it. It's intesified because the leafs are the biggest money maker.

So the presence of TSN and Sportnet on top of all the local media, doesn't put a bigger spotlight on the leafs..................only the amount of money they make from the fans and advertisers etc.

You're serious?

Do you know how to read?? The reason there is so much media coverage is because there is so much demand for the Leafs. They have a huge fan base that demands content...... they have a big group of fans who hate the team/city and want demand info about them to fulfill their hatred.

The fact that these media outlets are located here doesn't mean they only get more coverage because of that. That's asinine (par for the course from you though).

You are aware that each of those national media outlets has at least one fulltime reporter embedded with the team right??

The Leafs aren't shown more because the outlets are located here. They are shown more because of the demand. End of story.

I prefer to put it on the Management who built the team. Players just play to their level. Fans tend to be too reactionary to small samples or 1 season success or drop in play. Bernier was untouchable last season, now he is trade fodder to most. There are so many variables that go into how many goals and assists a player gets.

Name it CapGreg ‏@SkinnyPPPhish
@michaelgrange @mirtle Here's a question: Why are two players with great individual play being blamed for team level failure?

Name it CapGreg ‏@SkinnyPPPhish
@michaelgrange @mirtle Follow up: Kessel ranks 5th in goals & 15th in pts since joining the Leafs. How much better does he need to be?

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
@michaelgrange it's that or incompetence I guess? The team is brutally constructed

Name it CapGreg ‏@SkinnyPPPhish
@michaelgrange @mirtle Follow up: Phaneuf is 23rd among Dmen in ppg while also 9th in TOI/G since 2010. How much better does he need to be?

Name it CapGreg ‏@SkinnyPPPhish
@michaelgrange @mirtle So basically what you're implying is that Kessel/Phaneuf need to be best in the NHL at their positions....

Name it CapGreg ‏@SkinnyPPPhish
@michaelgrange @mirtle ...for this horribly constructed Leafs team to not be a bottom feeder. That right there is proof this isn't on them.

One Captain, who asked to be traded, does not constitute a "Queue".

That’s true, Alfredsson jumped ship by different means.

I’ll rephrase. A queue of captains pining to get the f*&k out. Happy now?

different queue, same end result.

Who was the last Captain of the leafs, that stayed with the leafs, and retired as the Captain of the leafs? I'm asking, but perhaps it was Ted Kennedy, but don't know for sure.

In the entire history of the Leafs, I don’t think they’ve had two captains clamour to get out within a year.

Ever. It’s never happened.

Drafted 22nd overall, Tyler, Biggs now looks like he will never play an NHL game.toronto traded up to get him. They gave up the 30th pick and the 39th pick .

that picture is not Biggs

but yes.. we know the leafs have drafted for low upside lately in the 1st.. Biggs, Gauthier .even Finn and percy

Leafs have better minds in control now..so have to just let that stuff go focus on the positives they have done since July

was never a fan of that pick.

Not that it matters. the other kid they took in the draft is among the better late first round picks from that year. Certainly better than the two late first Sens picks.

So is Josh Leivo, who they got in the third.

Taking 21 points out of 24, in their last 12 games is blowing?

OH OH ......... they beat Montreal twice in those 12 games.

Also, where did I mention age, I was pointing out that they were all Ottawa draft picks.

All that, and still not even close to a playoff team.

I wonder if you would say the 06 leafs, that went 9 wind in their last 11 games, was a good team.
