According to what you said....... that would be the expectations I would have..

If his production is not being slowed by the lack of Savard, his ice time improves and his PP time improves, why would you expect the same result? You said he is elite, what are your expectations this year?

Even last year I said he's just a better version of Chris Higgins. They'll see.

Boston looks like they're sure missing Kessel. They can't score.

I'd say it's more like they're missing Looch and Savard.

Crosby's just a better version of Stajan.

And Ovechkin is just a better version of Kulemin.

So you guys quote Pierre when he says Kessel needs Savard, but laugh at him when he predicts the Leafs will make the playoffs and their defense will be fantastic?
- RogerRoeper

never heard him say that..........ever. He said they would have trouble scoring, but never said they would make the playoffs.

BTW, he NEVER said he needed Savard, he said he needs an upgrade over what they have in toronto that passes for a first line center.

Kurri did not need Gretzky, or Hull did not need Oates or Janney right?

It's not ridiculous to compare Kessel and Higgins. They're both young american players who play a good 2 way game and are expected to score goals. Not to mention centers who were shifted to the wing after they got to the NHL and weren't good enough to continue being centers. Both first round picks too.

Higgins gets a lot of chances but can't seem to capitalize on them, and it seems like that's where Kessel will be headed on a team that isn't as deep as the Bruins were.

IMO kessel hasn't proven much more than Higgins has in this league.

And btw, your post essentially said that comparing Kessel to higgins was like comparing Crosby to Stajan... and leafs fans say they aren't delusional?

Savard is good but not in the league of the two best set-up centres in history.

I think that's a bit unfair after only one game. He hit the post and looked terrific last night. The goals will come.

And did being on Boston help him as much as he helped Boston? Boston looks to me like they're missing Kessel right now.

hyperbole my friend.

From what I've seen, they're not that similar... and 1 game back after 5(?) months off the ice and shoulder surgery makes it a bit early to say that Kessel can't bury the puck.

Higgins has yet to put up a season as good as Kessel's last, and it doesn't exactly look like he's headed upwards right now.

And the closest thing to a good linemate that Higgins ever had was Saku Koivu. I'm not basing it on one game, I'm basing it on everything I've seen of the two players over their careers. Just because Kessel scored 10 goals more than Higgins best year once doesn't mean he's all that better than him either.

Only the ones who never watched the game would judge Kessel negatively in the first game he comes back. Kessel looked way better than expected coming back on the ice after 6 months... I don't care what they say about Savard, Kessel has a knack for finding the open ice... He had 10 shots the other night, and probably 4 of them were goal scoring chances that he could have put in if he wasn't fresh off injury... He hit the post, he god robbed once and tipped a shot that barely hit the crossbar in Overtime... He's proving that the chances are coming, it's his job now to do what he did in Boston and finish those goals.
