this is the exact same thing with Kessel... Burke threw away the rebuild according to many here, who fail to mention that the guy he got with those picks, isn't that much older than a draft pick anyways

But if Carolina has a 1st and 2nd overall pick in two consecutive years they might become a tremendous force. I know Stall is a great talentbut Carolina does not have the supporting caste to go with him. I think it would be a monster move by both Boston and Carolina. Kessel is not in the same class as Staal.

No, trading Eric Staal is a terrible idea. There is no way you can justify that rationally. You lose.

Let's assume that Carolina can put together a situation where they are able to draft Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall this year by giving up Staal. And, let's assume it creates the condition of possibility that they are able to repeat a similar outcome next year or at least two top five picks using their own and the Leafs 1st from 2011. Carolina would be a force for years to come. It would take a few years for the team to get to the top but the depth of talent would be spectacular.

Players hit their absolute peak performance level at the 25 to 28 range. Staal is a horse and he can lead a team to the Cup. He is coming into his peak performance range. But, Carolina simply does not have the supporting caste. Boston has a great supporting caste, but they do not have the gifted offensive talent to lead them to the promised land. It would be a great marriage.

This wave of great young teams starting with Pittsburgh, Washington and Chicago and now including the kids of Tampa and the Islanders. LA and Pheonix also appear to have great upside.

What these teams all share in common was the ability to draft top five picks in successive years. It isn't just that they have great talent but it is the fact the talent is so age concentrated. Everyone expects those teams to continue to get better, to improve upon their own standard in successive years.

Anahiem appears to understand the game and they are moving key rosture players and positioning to reload only a few years after winning the Stanley Cup. It is not enough to have a few good draft picks. You have to crash to the bottom and get the future superstars and you need several.

1) Staal has a NTC.
2) Staal has already won his franchise a cup and is going to retire there.
3) Boston cannot afford Staal with their cap situation.
4) You don't trade a franchise forward because of a crappy 20 game start to a season.
5) Anaheim traded key players, but not their franchise player(s), (Getzlaf, Perry)
6) There is no guarentee they will even get Hall, or that he will even put up numbers/success equal to Staal.
7) No.
8) Learn to spell cast.

I did not think that these guys could get to me anymore. I cannot believe they let them come back from three goals. But the real heartache was allowing the goal with 2 seconds left to play. Horrible. Painful. Beyond the point of getting angry, just very sad.

Oh yes ignore the stats. I've lost so much credibility by supplying facts. He hasn't been even a PPG player since he won the cup and in 05-06' he looked like he was an elite franchise player.

That would be great if hockey were all about G's and A's. You are really an average fan and a huge homer if you are trying to put Kessel and E.Staal in the same sentence.
