Just curious, has a team other than the worst team overall ever won the lottery (excluding Pittsburgh's Crosby triumph)?
- p_zub

I know Chicago did in getting Patrick Kane. Philly had the worst record that year.

It it barely ever happends. It's heavily-weighted.

It's the same song and dance here. When the Leafs slump people jump back on the "The Bruins will get Taylor Hall" bandwagon.

That simply is not going to happen. The Leafs turn around this slump around very soon.

turn turn?

and its over half way through the season and for no more than a 5 game stretch (which all teams will have even the oilers) have you guys looked even CLOSE to a playoff team. face it roger, your team is a bottom feeder and will be for a long time unless you guys magically sign every good free agent next year.

Hardly a bottom feeder. They're in the playoff race. You have to accept that.

After the Leafs started 1-7-4, everyone guaranteed Boston had Taylor Hall.

Even with Kessel? With Kessel, they have 32 points in 30 games, which is roughly a .533 points percentage, which would put them in 8th place over the entire year.

I'd say that pretty soundly proves your statement about there being NOTHING to support that they aren't a bottom 5 team is wrong. Even if you project the last 70 games WITH Kessel, it would equate to about an 80 point team. Which is out of the bottom 5 every year since the lockout. WELL out some years.

the Leafs were under .200 without Kessel, and are over .500 with him.

You have an interesting definition of 'sliding'. Of course, I'm not surprised. You tend to take 10 game stretches, and assume that's what going to happen forever. Case in point - Penner - how's that PPG player coming along? How many points in his last 10 games?

I don't know. Do you think the Leafs will be serious sellers at the trade deadline? I doubt it (although they should be). The rest of those horrible teams will be though, and that is likely when the Leafs will make their patented late season push that takes them out of the bottom 5. You can pretty much guarantee that'll happen based on the past.

i laugh at the fact that the only thing you ever try to make fun of me for is Penner. He would be your best forward, LOL. would you take me seriously if i said kaberle was sliding and made fun of him all the time? trust me, you WISH you had a powerforward capable of scoring 35 goals and 70+ points..

Why can't I say they're in the playoff race? They are.

Keep spinning things to make me sound like some sort of dreamer. The 8th place team in the East is on pace for only 86 points. The lowest in years.

so? the fact remains that they've been a bottom 5 team since the beginning of the season. with or without your franchise forward kessel. how's he been doing lately anyhow? burning it up?

i have said it many times, you guys MIGHT not finish bottom 3 ONLY because burke will make another dumb trade to boost your team to prevent boston from drafting top 3 which will or *should* result in burke being fired.

even carolina is in the playoff race. half way through the year it is possible for ANY team to go 41-0 and make the playoffs. i wouldnt go around announcing it when your in third last though

Penner had a nice start but he's coming back down to earth. And he's hardly a 35 goal, 70 point guy. And you've made fun of Leaf fans for claiming Kessel is a 40 goal scorer.

The Leafs won't finish bottom 3 even if they don't make a single change.

Put gustavsson in net more and yopu've got more wins right there. Toskala is currently the worst starting goalie in the entire NHL ( for the second straight year)

Again, they are only as low as they are due to that start. That's the only reason.

And you think Burke will be fired? Not happening.

He wouldn't be anywhere close to our best forward. He'd be behind Kessel, Hagman, potentially even Stajan. He might be our highest scoring guy over the first 15 games of the season, but that is all. Kessel is WAY better already, AND has miles better potential. Hagman is a great goal scorer, and plays a great two way game. He scores at roughly the same pace (don't quote the year's statistics, since you should be starting to figure out Penner's start was an anomaly), but is 1,000,000 times better defensively. Even Stajan scores the same, but plays a more complete game. If only he weren't a wuss, I'd say he's better for sure.

Pull your head out of the statistics for one minute. Penner is a lazy POS. He scored a pile of points in the first 15 or so games, and is back at his 50 point pace.

Not the point. He's trying to say that "even with Kessel, there is nothing to support that the Leafs won't finish bottom 5". I'd say that WITH Kessel in the lineup, their pace suggests that they won't says that statement is patently untrue. That's actually something pretty solid to suggest they won't finish bottom 5.

Roger do you realize that they had that bad start because they sucked?? and only by adding kessel they became somewhat competitive?

edit: and when kessel disappears they pretty much suck again
