Not the point. He's trying to say that "even with Kessel, there is nothing to support that the Leafs won't finish bottom 5". I'd say that WITH Kessel in the lineup, their pace suggests that they won't says that statement is patently untrue. That's actually something pretty solid to suggest they won't finish bottom 5.

Of course, all the evidence says with Kessel there's a night and day change from the 1-7-4 record without him.

Roger do you realize that they had that bad start because they sucked?? and only by adding kessel they became somewhat competitive?
- SUPERDOMINO

No. They had that bad start because they had no Gustavsson, Komisarek and Beauchemin played terrible.

Penner had a nice start but he's coming back down to earth. And he's hardly a 35 goal, 70 point guy. And you've made fun of Leaf fans for claiming Kessel is a 40 goal scorer.
- RogerRoeper

you think missing his star playmaker has anything to do with it? or maybe the fact that his linemates are hardly of an NHL caliber right now? he plays with worse players than even kessel and he is out pointing him and on pace for more goals and he has played more games and leads our team in +/- (or very close)

hahaha, hemsky goes down and penners numbers go down and everyone thinks he sucks again. even malkin goes on point droughts, he will be back...

He slowed to a snail's pace before Hemsky was injured. Try again.

Kessel is on the same pace even with his slump than he was with Savard last season.

Are we going to dig up the "Kessel can't score without Savard" comments again?

hes on pace for 4 less goals and 7 less points in the same number of games WITH ALOT MORE ICE TIME.

that proves savard padded his numbers..

BTW, Penner still has never had a season as good as Jason Blake, Kessel, Stajan, Ponikarovsky. So let's stop the nonsense like he's some superstar. He's avg about 20 goals since arriving in Edmonton.

That "Bust" (Who makes less than Penner BTW), Blake is avg. 25 goals, 60 points since the lockout.

29 goals as a rookie says hes better than stajan and poni.

plus are you really going to argue that blake is better than penner?

kessel is the only player on your team that is even debatable and penner is much better defensively AND STILL HAS BETTER NUMBERS so your arguements will go nowhere unless you bring up last year. and who cares about the past isnt the present what defines a hockey player?ie. jason blake.

29 goals 4 years ago and he's never come close to it again.

Penner has been better this season, but no, Penner hasn't proven he's a better player overall to have.

Ponikarovsky had 61 points last season. More than Penner ever had. Stajan had 55 points. Once again, more than Penner ever had.

Yeah, he did. He had 7 points in 12 games prior to Hemsky getting injured. Scoreless in 7 of those 12 games.

He was back to his usual self before November started.

Yep, Blake, Stajan, Hagman, Kessel. All better than Penner. Blake is a close one though. Stajan and Hagman put up similar point totals, but they're better defensively. Kessel is just plain better.

7 points in 12 games is not the end of the world. good god man there is TONS of players in the league INCLUDING KESSEL that are streaky. penner will put up 5 points in 2 games then go 3 without a point... WHO CARES, the fact that he can maintain a 40 goal pace over half way thru a season is damn impressive i could care less if he goes in spurts.

What don't you get about this? 7 points in 12 games is not the end of the world. But when a player scores 50 or 60 points every year, and then starts off with 20 points in 10 games, but then returns back to the 50 or 60 point pace, what is more likely, he was on a hot streak, and he's back to normal? Or at the age of 27 or whatever, he's suddenly become a different player, and it's just a small cold streak? It's quite plainly obvious the former.

When a guy who scores 100 points for many years scores 7 points in 12 games, it's a cold streak, and he's more likely to return to the 100 point pace.

Penner may be streaky. and his ONE streak at the beginning of the year was a hot streak. Now he's back to himself, that he has PROVEN himself to be over the course of several seasons. 50 to 60 point lazy POS. It's that simple.

its his 4th year (maybe 5th now i forget) in the NHL he is young and GETTING BETTER. every single oiler fan has seen a completely DIFFERENT dustin penner from years before. he is not the same player, face it already man. even when he isnt scoring he looks amazing out there. i was the biggest dustin penner hater last year and after watching him play 50-55 games i can tell you he is not the same player, he is much better WHICH HIS NUMBERS ALSO DICTATE.

Roger, roger, roger please stop. Where are your standards. What purpose does it serve to argue that Leaf talent is better than the Oilers? Has this been the level to which a great franchise is reduced? We are better than number 29. The Oilers are a terrible team. Carolina is a terrible team. We may be better than both! But is that the total of our ambition.

I had read the story earlier. I am not sure of your point. Are you suggesting that because Rutherford talks upbeat that he really believes he has a shot at making the playoffs? He knows the season is over. That is the reason why he is dealing some of his players.

Roger you would feel so much better if you just said Brian Blowhard is an idiot that has ruined the leafs for many years. It is hard to pretend that everything is okay when you know it is such a mess. The truth will set you free!

Roger..........please, the leafs are 29th overall, and will not be making the playoffs............ergo they are out of the playoff race.

http://www.playoffstatus....nhl/easternstandings.html

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html

You have got to stop looking at the points, and realize there are to many teams ahead of the leafs, (for them to pass) who will also be acquiring points between now and the end of the season...........the leafs will be having their team Golf tournament Sunday Morning April the 11th.

Hardly a bottom feeder. They're in the playoff race. You have to accept that.

After the Leafs started 1-7-4, everyone guaranteed Boston had Taylor Hall.

- RogerRoeper

Oh Roger, I wish I was as blind as you. Maybe then I could believe the Canucks are a contender. Wouldn't that feel nice...
