When someone finally resorts to swearing, it is because they have no valid argument left.

It is actually a good signal that self- disqualifys their own opinion.

It also shows that they will argue to the death something that they believe, even if all the evidence points to them being wrong.

And when facts will no longer support their side of the argument, their last stand is resorting to insults.

Or maybe their frustrated with dealing with a phenomenal amount of stupidity coming from a particular source.

I can tell you this.... and I'll leave myself out of it. You have not won any argument with Morris. He comes across as one of the more intelligent, reasonable, grounded posters here. I assure you, the exchange you've had here, makes you look like a mental midget. And I'm pretty sure everyone else will agree.

I can see why you might want to THINK it means what you think it means. To you, that would mean that the reactions you get from the rest of the world actually, in your head, means that you're comprehending everything being said, and countering with good insight.

It's not the case, however. People are just frustrated with you. And not in a way that reflects well on you, either.

Well that's just patently false. If that's your opinion though, good luck in this world. You're going to run into a lot of situations where people "self- disqualify their own opinion", and I hope that your feeling of superiority over people who choose to use different words than you will win the day despite swearing having little to do with rhetorical mastery or facts.

For the record, the instances of my swearing are rarely connected to "argu[ing] to the death [about] something that I believe, even if all the evidence points to them being wrong", not to mention the fact that it's a narrow view of the conditions and contexts of swearing altogether. If I say "How the fuck are you, buddy?" in a jovial tone, what does that have to do with arguing? I sincerely want to know how you're doing, and here the f-word in this instance suggests familiarity and congeniality and not any kind of antagonism or stubbornness.

We're obviously at an impasse here, though. I think you know that I'm not unintelligent - but swearing obviously is one of your pet peeves, so I'll try not to swear in posts toward you: that kind of empathy should reveal to you much more about me than the use of a four-letter word.

There are so many factors to take into account for this it isn't even funny. This is called generalizing, and is not a valid way to present your argument. As a matter of fact, Morris is one of the more civil peopel on this site. He only seems to swear when the person he is arguing with is being stupid, or not listening to basic reasoning.

I get that a lot as it is frustrating to spend a while discussing a topic only to realize that all your time has simply been wasted because nothing you say is even getting through

It's always nice to see the leafs blow a lead and lose again....

but's it's only game 1 of 82 until golf season starts.

And you called it after the first game.

Randy Carlyle spoke to the media yesterday..............
“I think what we’ve asked of our players is we have to demonstrate some more will, pride, passion, whatever, because it’s gone on long enough. That was our message after practice yesterday. It’s unacceptable to have our home record that we have. And that’s what we’re going to ask of our players … it has to start tonight.”

You are right if you mean that the question was directed at Leaf fans who have buried their heads in the sand in the belief that all this shall pass and tomorrow the Leafs will contend for a playoff spot. I am most angry at the naive supporters who quietly went along with the insanity of trading two number one picks for a gifted but fragile player. Why did not more people stand up and say to Burke, "this is crazy. We have seen and done that all before."

I am fed up with the lemmings who drink the kool aid and come on here and try and justify the insanity. Those of you who jumped on board and cheered the truculence crap bear some responsibility for this deep hole. What are we supposed to do now? Many of you who were the leading cheerleaders for Burke's hot air bluster will now begin to attack him. When you do, ask yourself why you did not say anything a month ago. At least have the decency to admit your mistake in believing in the flim flam this guy is trying to sell.

- spatso

WOW, your insight a few years back was right on.

When was the last time Burke talked to the media?? It's been over a month I think.

In toronto the season is almost over.....in Vancouver the season has just about to start.

You guys deserve better.

Leaf fans would never booo Luongo if he was a leaf. Last night be got booooed outta the net after one softy.

Canuck fans are so ungrateful.

The leafs are 3 years from the playoffs.

I have no doubt the streak will hit 10 seasons.

Burke will be gone, he will be remembered for the Kessel trade (failure), but I think all his other moves will be what brings the team back to respectability, the next GM will get credit for the turnaround.

Yeah, and Leaf goaltending since the lockout has crashed and burned in every conceivable way. It's been, by far, the number one issue with the Leafs. Hands down, without a question.

Kessel's last season on his current contract is 2013-14. Burke needs to sign him to an extension before the 2013-14 season to avoid the media circus that will ensue if he does not. Imagine the pressure he'll be under if he can't sign him, and the trading deadline approaches.

ya crazy..it will be like a trade deadline, where a big name player is on the block... imagine if that happened to a Rick Nash or someone like him.

The media pressure on Nash in Columbus would not compare to the Media CRUSH on Burke and Kessel, leading up to the trading deadline, (if he was not re-signed) in toronto. That's why Burke has to get a deal done before the Season starts, because then the cards shift to Kessel's side of the table.

Why do other teams fans worry about Kessel more than leaf fans?
I will be honest, if Kessel stays or goes, how much pressure it will be for Him and Burke does not register on my give a crap meter.

I dont care if they get a deal done now, yesterday or 2 minutes before he is supposed to be traded

I've heard reports that Kessel reported to "camp" way outta shape. As I've not seen him play this gimmicky shortened season, just wondering what those who have seen him play think.

He's been playing really well. Many, many chances, just not going in, as far as goal scoring goes. But he's been playmaking like I've never seen before. He set up Kostka on some consecutive shifts a couple of games ago three times, point blank, with some passes you don't expect out of people outside of Crosby et al. I believe that was against Buffalo, and Miller was standing on his head. He seems to be doing that fairly often this year so far.

Nothing wrong with Kessel whatsoever right now.

i think the reason nhl fans bring up kesell so often is because it draws so much anger (usually) from leaf fans. it can turn the most simple discussion into a sht fight

Point the finger directly at Brian Burke.

He tried to "jump start" the 5 year rebuild with the "Kessel trade". He never thought the leafs would do so poorly in the two seasons that handed the Bruins Seguin & Hamilton.

He may be out of shape, but I have not noticed it on the ice...I am not afraid to call out Kessel when I can, but I think he has been one of the best players on the team so far. He was leading the league in shots after 3 games, had many many close ones, but nothing is going in for him yet.. usually he is a quick starter.

Kadri was called out for his conditioning..he did fine in the AHL and seems to be holding his own in the NHL so far..

What do you make of all the talk about Zibanejad being a terrible pick? Particulary after him showing he isn't even a capable AHL player at this point. I find it rather interesting, given all the talk from Sens fans last year about him being "a man among boys", and an NHL-ready player. It makes it interesting that he isn't even AHL ready. Thoughts?

I remember reading spatso point out (probably upwards of 5+ times) that the sens could have 4 or 5 players like Zib make the jump... silferberg, noeson, pumpel, Stone, prince etc... Kadri is a few days older than Silf. has 5 points in 5 games..but has already been deemed a bust by most

Yes, Spatso says many things like that. In reality, Noesen and Puempel are having very unimpressive junior seasons (BOTH of their junior production numbers have actually declined), Kadri is a hell of a lot better than Silf, outproducing him, despite being given less icetime and opportunity (playing on the third line), and Zibanejad looks absolutely terrible (although, injury could be a factor).
