Leafs had a great season.

The loss is incredibly painful, highly emotional and not really a time for jokes or condescending comments.

All Leaf fans can be proud. It was a great series with a very disappointing outcome after the Leafs came back in the series.

I am ok with losing in game 7 in overtime. Its just annoying to add more ammo to the already huge backlog of leaf misery by giving up a 4-1 lead in the 3rd.

I have people who have never watched hockey asking me about the "choking" leafs first thing...

Meh, after being expected to finish with a top-5 pick, it's not really a choke

If they make this a trend, though...

No one thought the series would go to 7 games after the leafs fell behind 3 games to 1.

They sat back and seemingly tried to run out the clock.

Phaneuf seemed okay with allowing Lucic to stand in front of the crease, untouched and score the Bruins third goal.

He also allowed Chara to stand unimpeded in front of Reimer for the tying goal as well. Both times he should have cleared the front of the net and the leafs would have had home ice advantage taking on the Rangers, Wednesday night.

I have never been a huge fan of Phaneuf. On the other hand, I think he gets way too much blame because he is not what other people want him to be.

He would be a great #2 playing with a true #1. He could be an outstanding partner for a Karlsson or a Subban or a Doughty. Can he fit that role with Gardner when he groes into the role?

I think that Phaneuf deserves some time and space. The media pimped him into being something he never was. He is not a leader, he is not a #1, but he could be a very good Dman in the right situation.

The fact is even if the leafs had gone all the way and won the cup, everyone would have put an asterisk on it because of the shortened season.

From here on out, people will chirp but the team will definitely get better. They got beat on rebound control by one line. Young teams don't have the luxury of practicing 6 on 5 in practice.

People are afraid to admit that's far better than they ever expected out of the leafs, and there's no real sign that they'll be worse next year.

Sorry, I would take the Cup with the asterisk. Does anybody remember which of NJ's Cups came with an asterisk. Does it make it less than any other. Not really.

You'd take it if the Sens won, but one of the first to point it out if the Leafs did.

Next Season will be a regular 82 game season, so no one knows how any team will compare with this past 48 game season.

If any team does not practice 6 on 5, then there is a problem with the coaching staff.

The devils aren't the leafs. No one is like the leafs. It's on par with the Cleveland Browns winning the super bowl in a 7 game NFL season. They'd take it, but it wouldn't stop the chirping.

Never said they didn't practice 6 on 5, what am I a leafs beat reporter?

I'm saying for a young team that was happy to get there, and impressive to merely hang in there, I don't know whether 6 on 5 drills would have been the top priority in the morning skate.

P.S. Shawarma Palace was ridonkulous. Just lights out good. Thanks for the recommendation!

EDIT: in all fairness, it did sound like I was inferring they don't practice 6 on 5, so my flip remark was not warranted. As I say, I doubt it was a contingency that any underdog team prepares extensively for.

This goodwill toward you from Shawarma palace is making me do crazy things!

The collapse was terrible, but the Leafs are the NHL's youngest team (And showed it in the last 10 minutes of game 7 regulation).

The future is bright in regards to the young talent and cap room they have.

It kept changing throughout the year as guys got called up around the league but Toronto was 1st to 5th youngest basically at all times. That is not why they blew that last game though. That implosion is unexplainable.

Yup. All that is true. But they are factually the youngest team is the league and the majority of players had zero playoff experience.

Having said that there is no excuse for blowing 3 goal 3rd
Period lead with 10 to go.

Hopefully they learn form it.

Fair enough ,you need good vets to help see the kids through the tough times .Toronto could use a Dan Boyle on defense and maybe a Martin Stlouis up front to brace the kids moving forward

Probably not but somewhere along those lines ,there will be a few options opening up .The leafs problems isnt their offense in fact I think the have the best collection of wingers in the east .I can see a vet pmd to help Gards and buy some ahl development time for Reilly,up front maybe a good vet grinder/with some scoring touch, but like I said before there isnt much work needed up there
