It was said on CBC, so....... The ages are very fluid, based on the lineup, so posting a link to something doesn't prove much. They were what .4 years older?? At points in the year they were the youngest, and it was reported as such. That is a fact.

Should I stop using it as an excuse??

Well in any case the leafs first kick at the playoffs since 2004 ends up with a MASSIVE choke job, the worst games seven collapse by a team, in a game seven in Stanley Cup history.

This will lead to some knee jerk reactions during the off season, I suspect.

Big signing(s) of an UFA or two, a trade for a veteran goaltender as Reimer does not seem ready for the intensity of the media and fan pressure in toronto.

Will the leaf fall back into their regular 82 game season pattern of starting strong, getting fans hopes up for a huge playoff run by the time Christmas arrives, and then take their usual nosedive in the standings and struggle to grab a bottom playoff spot for the rest of the season????

The CBC was wrong, they're always looking for excuses, true or not, to sooth over the hurt feelings of leaf nation.

You've been provided with two links to two very accurate and up to date websites that show definitively that you're labouring under a falsehood perpetuated by the mighty CBC.

- Doppleganger

You obviously don't know how those stats work...... falsehoods!!.

The link you provided shows them .298 years older.

It kept changing throughout the year as guys got called up around the league but Toronto was 1st to 5th youngest basically at all times. That is not why they blew that last game though. That implosion is unexplainable.

Sigh, ..298 years isn't a lot. They are computed based on the lineup. At points in the year they were. It was reported. But continue to ignore.

If CBC tries to help the Leafs with their hurt feelings, why are they always crapping on the team?

And whe were these stats compiled? Because They change based on injuries/call-ups during the season.

Just measured on agony, this may be the most painful Leaf season ever. I do think they will level off from this free fall and put up a good fight for the last playoff spot.

I do too.

They have a key player or two out with an injury, and all teams go through slumps like this. Once those players who've just returned, and the rest return the leafs should pick up their pace, as other teams do in similar situations.

On October 29th the leafs were on TOP of the Eastern Conference, with 18 points.

maple leafs 18
Penguins 16
Lightning 16
Bruins 14
Red Wings 14

As of today, all the teams that were below the leafs (above) have passed them in Conference Standings including these other teams, and two more could do the same tonight.

Capitals
Flyers
Rangers
Hurricanes

That's NINE teams so far and by tomorrow both the Devils and the Senators should pass the leafs in the standings, making it ELEVEN teams.

The leafs always start strong, the nonobjective fans start to plan the SC Parade, then the leafs have their slump around the Christmas to mid January time period, and then join in the race with a handful of teams for the final few playoff spot for the rest of the season.

Heck I predicted this at the end of last season, with it being an anomaly.

A gimmicky 48 game season was not long enough for the normal "patterns" of teams to play out.

Funny how some leaf fans make a big deal out of how many fans attend games, and how much money a team makes and spends.

I thought it was kinda funny. It's about as thrilled as raptor fans get when they show Alfredsson's picture too I guess.

Yea, who cares about how much their team spends? It's not like it's a sign about how serious they are in building a winning team or anything.

And which team has made the most money in the last 47 years?

How many winning teams have they built?

Have they won anything?

Are their fans happy with paying the highest prices for tickets for decades with no championships?

Did you see me talking about how much the team makes?

I was talking about how important it is for a team to spend money(which to a certain point is contingent on how much they make) when it comes to winning the cup. Teams that don't spend, don't win- plain and simple.

when fans will pay a premium no matter how good the team is, they ultimately suffer, as there is no sense of urgency from the owners.

I can't really speak for all fans, but I don't get much agony from a sports team.

However, the most frustrating season was finishing well out of the playoffs after trading away the first round pick. In the end, the trade worked out alright. Not great, not too bad. The Leafs ended up with one of the best offensive players in the league, for over a decade. That's pretty good. But that was a pretty crap year.

It was so long ago though, I can't remember. Tell me, what does it feel like as a Sens fan right now? I'd imagine it's even worse, after trading away a first, for a lesser player, who becomes UFA after next season, and proceeding to realize your team kind of stinks, and was only being propped up by goaltending playing way over it's head last year, enough to get the team into the playoffs. Barely.

Funny though, the Sens go on a little hot streak, temporarily close the gap, and suddenly you appear after ignoring me for so long. I know you won't respond though. Because you're a chump. You'll disappear and stick to Sens threads because you can't face us. Chump.

How many teams spending in the bottom 10 of the league have won the Stanley cup in the last 30 years. Answer - zero. Most of the cup winners in that timeframe have been in the top 10 in spending. I believe the Canes and Lightning are the only two exceptions.

Spending more doesn't guarantee a winner. But it's pretty close to a prerequisite.
