That is essentially true. I would prefer to see Ottawa deal both Ryan and Spezza. They are going to be very good. But, it would be a mistake to push the rebuild too fast.
- spatso

Don't forget the Cap is going up, and if the Senators are going to be a "Budget team" during this (in progress) re-build they will have to at least spend to the floor. So there is room to pay whatever Ryan may be asking for and remain well under the $71 million cap.

The cap floor is expected to rise to roughly $52 million, and Ottawa has roughly $51 million in committed contracts next season (including Spezza).

So looking at the numbers, I can see trading one but not two of the players you're suggesting.

Stop crying, Bobby Ryan will most likely stay with Ottawa.

- Doppleganger

Why would he stay? There is no reason to stay. I put it at 90% he leaves.

Out of curiousity, how many games has it taken you to name Mark Stone capable of replacing Bobby Ryan?

Don't forget that to sign someone, they have to be willing to take a pen, and put their name on a contract.

Unfortunately for you, an American hockey player from the state of New Jersey has little to no reason to sign a contract and commit to staying in a small, substandard Canadian 'city', for a franchise with an idiot for an owner, who can't spend enough to ice a competitive team, is currently a basement team, with barely any draft picks this year, and not an overly impressive group of prospects, whose players get taxed at a higher rate than those playing for American teams.

Why would he do that?

Vancouver has been the worst managed this year and likely Edmonton in terms of teams in the last decade if results speak for anything.

Sens have been bad this year and for the foreseeable future, and Leafs need to make sure they add what they need without being too reactionary.

toronto maple leafs Playoff Chances
Lost to Detroit 2-4, playoff odds down 13.3 to 6.5%

The leafs came into the Month of March like a LION, with 72 points and barely hanging onto a wild-card spot.

They proceeded to climb up the standings and by the 10th on March they had grabbed a home ice playoff spot sitting pretty in 2nd place within their division.

By the 14th of the month they had accumulated 80 points, and were three points clear on their division rivals behind them, sitting only behind the Bruins.

leaf fans were rejoicing, they were booking time off from work to be able to stand in the inevitable Stanley Cup Parade down Yonge Street. Some of them even started to count their chickens before they hatched and turned up there smack talk here in these forums, rubbing it in opposing teams fans faces.

But they did not heed the warning............"Beware the Ides of March" ...............they were told, don't get fooled by the points standings, to many loser points and not enough regulation wins they were told, they were reminded that many teams behind the mighty leafs had "games in hand" and could very well make up ground on the high flying leafs.

Some fans scoffed at this notion, "games in hand don't matter" they responded, "too many teams needed to pass the leafs" to put their season and playoff aspirations in jeopardy they said.

Well, it was only a matter of time, the leafs couldn't stop the onslaught of shots allowed per game, and the goals..................then the coach threw the back up goaltender under the bus......................................... and one by one SIX teams in their conference blew past the leafs in the standing, knocking them from their lofty perch, near the pinnacle of the conference, and all the way down to 10th in the conference, out of the the playoff race on March 25th, in only a mere 11 days.

And now as the month of March draws to an end, the mighty leafs, who came into the Month of March like a LION, not heeding the warning given to them about the Ides of March, crawl out of March like the meek little lambs that they are.

better city for one. Better team for two. Don't know about the rest.

Doesn't really matter. Kessel never stated he was going to test free agency, like Bobby Ryan has.

Did Bobby Ryan actually say that? Murray seems to be saying he will be resigned.

Jsut like Alfredsson.

It's been reported, yes, but I'm not sure about direct quotes. Ducks fans have mentioned that there are in fact direct quotes, but I've never seen any.

All signs point to him going bye bye though.

Supposedly Clarkson was offered more money in Edmonton. Thank god he signed in Toronto though. He's been a huge part of our success.

Yeah I mean the management/owner situation. The team just needs an injection of talent, and if they didn't have EM I wouldn't be worried they could get it.
