How bad is it when a roster of total junk is currently better than your team and has been doe the last 10 years. Ryan is junk but is only a hand full of points back of jvr and less than 10 points back of the superstar kessel.

Kessel 8 million.. Fat, out of shape, lazy, doesnt care, first off the ice is 10 points ahead 7 million Bobby Ryan?

how can that be?

Kessel has 47 points playing with bozak and jvr who those two have 79 combined points. -57

Ryan has 39 points playing with Hoffman and zibanejad who have a 57 combined points. +17

So 8 points are separating the two while kessel at this time has more support. If Ryan played with bozak and jvr would the point totals be closer?

exactly my point.. Kessel is garbage..how can he be ahead of such a stud like Ryan.. its mind boggling.. Kessel does ZERO to keep in shape.. is very over weight.. yet easily out scored a top line player in Ryan.

you are combining +/- we have to stop now.. ffs that is so dumb

When their +/- is the worse on the team it says something. I do agree usually it is a useless stat

yes certainly does. Bozak is very bad, JVR is bad...Kessel imo is the best of the 3.
but as a Line, one of the worst at limiting shots.. this has been known for several seasons

For some reason Bozak got a rep as a good defensive player..

and combining +/- for any reason is stupid.
If a line is on the ice for a goal against, each player get -1 but saying they are combined -3 makes no sense. Its 1 goal not 3.
I get why people do, its sounds worse, doesnt make it correct.

My whole point was the difference between the two is not that bad considering kessel plays with more offensive players

We should give Phil some credit. The guy, up til now has been scoring 30+ goals a year, with Bozak (second line centerman) and JVR (still young and has good hands).

Yes, I've noticed and been perplexed as why he's out of breath, and puts his head down every time he comes off the ice. I thought he was having a smoke break.
Would be funny to see smoke rising up with his head down.

The guy also had cancer as a youngster, and got through it. I wish him all the best, wherever he ends up. He's also not old, and should fetch a good return from a team that needs a first line RW.

So having Bozak as is Centre is an advantage?

Kessel is far better than Bobby Ryan,. End of story.

how's your 8 million dollar 3rd liner doing? since 2015 rolled around, what does he have, like 4 pts and is something like a -14.
- sensarmy_11

You mean our 3rd liner who is top 5 in NHL points the last 4 seasons?

Compared who Ryan plays with yes bozak is an advantage. He puts up more points. I agree kessel is better but this season it is not by much. I wanted to post numbers because prock insists Ryan is a second line player worth nothing while kessel is a superstar. The points are close while kessel has much better line mates

Kessel has been better for 4 years now. Not just this season. For Kessel to be top 10 in NHL scoring 3 straight years with Bozak is damn impressive.

Ryan plays with Zibanejad and Hoffman. He has been a great mentor to them both. They are having good years coming off their entry level contracts. Both will likely hit 20 goals. Frankly, I have been surprised by how strong And physical Ryan's game is.

Very different player than Kessel. In fact, Kessel and Ryan would be very good playing together. Ryan is a good scorer. But, he is also a good playmaker. Kessel is probably the best finisher in the NHL when set up near the net.

The lesson was obvious: Kessel should be taken for granted only at your own peril.

It’s something the dissenters in Toronto might come to understand if the winger is dealt away — be it before the March 2 deadline or more likely in the off-season. Perhaps Kessel will eventually land with a
contender and get a chance to chase the Stanley Cup, an achievement that would no doubt change perceptions.

In reality, all he has to be is himself: Because that’s been plenty good enough, even if it hasn’t always been portrayed that way.

Kessel is probably a better playmaker than he is a finisher... He's just always been portrayed that way, because first he played with Savard, a fantastic playmaker, and then he came to Toronto, with no help on his line until Lupul came in, which is when his point totals jumped

I thought we agreed that the most appropriate comparison yo bobby Ryan was David clarkson?

Comparing him to kessel is completely unfair to Ryan.

Excuse me. Is this the same Bobby Ryan you said would never resign with the Senators? I think it is.

I won't embarress you by reviewing your original comments on the Leafs signing Wendel Clarkson.

Kessel is a perimeter player, who does not go into the corners and fights for the puck and gets physical and hits other players, his attributes are speed and finding opening to get off a quick shot. He does not back check or fore check much.

Ryan is a more all around type player, who does go into the corners and fights for the puck, has great board working skills and is not afraid of being physical. He covers up for pinching D men and always fore checks and back checks.

And now as of today, both players are scoring at a 0.82 points per game pace, and Ryan could finish the season with more points, if both players continue as their current (identical) rates.

If both continue putting up identical point percentages, how will Ryan finish with more points?
