Sens re-sign Methot .. re-tool is on for sens

Yeah signing him ,just gives us some sort of veteran presence on our extremely green blueline.Ottawa,s still a very young and still developing club ,and will probably get younger after the trade deadline tbh

This is just not good enough.

There is no real thought or analysis behind your point of view. You can do so much better. It is better to say nothing. Far below your own standards. Think on it, don't get down on yourself, don't get disappointed. Just put a bit more effort into your responses.

A late first round draft pick, depending on how far the Predators go in the playoffs, not a sure bet to draft a NHL player, but it's better than losing the player(s) for nothing in return.

The prospect is a undersized third rounder, which may never make it to the NHL, but again, better than getting nothing if the UFAs walked at the end of the season.

The Methot signing is a smart move, and the team got what it wanted, a four year deal. He probably could have gotten more money, and a longer term had he gone to the UFA market.

Bobby Ryan has upped his game in the last month and a half, by scoring 28 points in 28 games, while Phil Kessel, who was PPG player back in the second week of January (41 points in 41 games) has managed to knock off almost 20% of his PPG, and now sits at 0.82.

Ryan is trending up, and Kessel is dropping like a lead balloon.

Hopefully he picks up his play before the trade deadline, and the leafs could actually unload his u-coachable ass on some other team.

It was becasue I had no idea he was still in the league. Maybe they can find a contending team looking for some depth.

No, I'm pointing out how Ryan has picked up his game as the season has progressed, and how Kessel has pretty much given up on the season and is showing signs of wanting out.

I know you don't want to face the stark reality that this is what the "Kessel trade" has come to.

The leafs gave up a pretty good future, by bringing in a player the Bruins were not willing to go forward with.............to the Stanley Cup, and now he is one of the major reasons the leafs are where they are. His contract, the lack of dedication to team defence, his tendency to fade away at the end of the season (three goals in his last 20 or so game), his unwillingness to do what his coaches have asked of him has now lead to the inevitable trade that the leafs will not win.

Burke really should have stuck to his original rebuilding plans, and the leafs probably would have been better off than only having made the playoffs once in team years, and now once in 11 years...........and with a "blow up" this streak could end up being once in twenty freaking years!

You're sure dong your best to NOT talk about the abysmal future the leafs are embarking on, for the next 5 years.

Instead you want to talk about me.

I guess if I was a fan of a team, that has NEVER watched his team play in the Stanley Cup Finals, in his lifetime, then now having witnessed ANOTHER monumental collapse of the leafs this season.............well I'd be trying to avoid the topic too I guess.

Meanwhile here in Ottawa, we're facing the first time the Senators have missed the playoffs in consecutive years, in the last nineteen seasons. But there are some good things to look forward to in the not to distance future.

Sucks to be a leaf fan, I feel kind of sorry for some leaf fans, including you sometimes, not all the time.

Again, just deflecting.

I'll bite though. Leafs are starting a full rebuild for the first time in... Ever.

The senators are a team with no history, a poopty present, no decent prospects, and no direction.

Brian Burke attempted a full re-build through the Draft, but felt the pressure of the fan base and the Media in the toronto market..........and tried to "short cut" his way to a contender by trading away two first rounders and second for an un-coachable one dimensional winger who was not wanted in Boston, and was traded away so they could go on to win the Stanley Cup.

The Ottawa Senators were one of the original four founding teams in the NHL, which were the Montreal Canadiens, the Montreal Wanderers, the Ottawa Senators and the toronto arenas.

After a brief hiatus, the NHL, in it's wisdom, brought the Ottawa Senators and all it's previous Stanley Cup Winning Heritage back into the NHL in hopes that finally a team from Canada's most populous province would sometime, in our life times, return to the Stanley Cup Finals............as it looked like it would never ever happen again in the foreseeable future.

Since returning to the NHL the Senators have won a Presidents Trophy which no other Ontario team has, Won an Eastern Conference Finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, won four Divisional Championships and were the first and only team in Ontario to surpass 100 points in a season before the advent of loser points.

The current team has a solid base of young, albeit inexperienced talent, with some great established stars on it's roster, and the ability to sign any UFA that they choose as they have a ton of cap space ................. the future is looking pretty good.

It sure would suck to be a leaf fan, with nothing to show for a succession of failed re-building attempts..................but THIS TIME it's going to work !!!

Drafted Kadri... Then traded the next two firsts away.

Yeah, he went off his game plan, and tried to jump-start the re-build and it blew up in his face, and is re blowing up again as the one dimensional, uncoachable player he pinned the entire re-build on, shows up at training camp over weight, goes though the motion in practise and chooses not to backcheck, forecheck and only cashes cheques.

BTW Bobby Ryan now has 29 points in his last 29 games.

So when Burke came in and said he didn't want to do a full rebuild, you interpreted that add him wanting to do a full rebuild?

The media and the fanbase in toronto do not have the patience to wait for a real true rebuild through the draft.

Everyone knows it is what is needed, but ownership, fan and media pressure finally get to the GM, and when they start start hearing the calls for the quick fix, the GM usually caves............like Burke did.

DO you really believe that the leafs will stop bringing in high priced UFAs, and only draft and develop players for the better part of the next decade?
