I am concerned that the following is what will happen:

They sign Carter and don't have enough cap space to sign Giroux, Leino, Zerdev, Carcillo. they are replaced by 4 Nodls.

Zherdev is a one year guy, I'm certain of that...Giroux obviously is the key guy out of the 4. Leino has to have a playoff level performance to make a big payday...Carbomb? He won't see a big payday unless he has a Tocchet breakout year.

If they can sign him for that and bring back giroux and either Leino or Zerdev, I would feel much better

People are saying if Carter this and and Carter that.

He's not the issue.

The issue is the Briere and Timonen contracts. That's who they need to move after this season if possible IMO.

One of those two.

If Carter gets 6.5 - 7M that people are throwing around and Bobo becomes the back-up (they didn't sign him for 1.75 to play in the A for 3 years), they will have about 5M to spend on the other guys and have the 1+M cap space to start the season.
It woldn't take much of a pay raise for those guys to max that out.
So we likely get Giroux done and then have cap space for injuries.
No Leino, no money to replace Zerdev, no Carbomb, no Powe and walker must replace O'donnell in the line-up on an everynight basis.

So something has to give unless cater is going to play an entire line by himself.
Maybe Kimo goes....but what do we replace him with? It has to be quality or we will need to think about upgrading the nets since the D is what is going to limit shots and bail out the goalie.

no argument from me there.

you know, the first time I mentioned trading Carter (weeks ago. I think I started most of this) it was strictly from the standpoint that if Kimo or Briere either wouldn't retire or waive their clauses then Carter, in terms of contract value and likely value of return, would make the most sense to move.

The issue I have is Carter is the best or 2nd best forward on the Flyers and he's only 25 years old.

I think you move others to keep him.

That being said if he's going to get $7 million I'd have to seriously put some feelers out there.

yeah, see my problem is that to make it work, we have to assume that the guys who hold the power (Kimo/Briere) will acquiesce.

I think Carle is developing in to a Kaberle type player.

Carle and Pronger are a great pair IMO. They work well together.

yup, but I will take Kaberle's expeiring contract so I can use that cap space next year..unless of course Kimo has aleady told the flyers brass this is his last year.

Anyway, I would make that moe and sign one of the goal scoring FAs swill out there. someone at 3M or less.
Would have 2.5M in free space this year and 6.5M in new space next year once kaberle walks away.

That would be a no-brainer for me. But the obvious problem would be to move Timonen with two years left on his cap hit.

Hopefully, with three good D pairings, the load on Kimmo will be reduced which will make him more effective over the next year. After that, perhaps we could be a generous benefactor and toss a few bucks into Finland's KalPa program if Kapanen could convince Kimmo to come home.

All else equal I think that's an easy choice. No offense to Kimmo.

I could see retaining all of Giroux, Carcillo, and Leino. Remember the holmgren cap management strategy: as long as you get and keep the guys you want, it's ok to leave a salary cap mess. We'll fix it later or something. I'm sure he'll make another moderately sized mess to keep them, and leave it to fix in the following offseason.

He doesn't suck.

This is like arguing religon with you guys...

I say i want him traded... and you all act like i crucified jesus...

I only want him out because of his upcoming UFA and for what he brings to the table IN MY OPINION isn't worth that kind of money.

We lost Knuble and his goals... no big deal.. we lose lupul and his goals.. no big deal...

If we lose Carter and his goals, someone else will make them up.

I think that the only way to really know if we'd miss him is if he was traded. To sit here and say oh we'll miss that.. and we'll miss this.. is speculation. Nothing more.

The Carter lovers are acting like Liberals.. my crap smells terrible.. and your's don't stink... you're right.. and everyone else is wrong.. no room for compromise until you've converted everyone to your beliefs.

Really? It's just the Carter lovers who are intractable? Neither side is covering itself in glory here.

And by the way, before someone complains again, someone disagreeing with you does not make them a troll.

unless the flyers make it to the finals again the team will be taking a step back. I can see letting Carter walk and taking the draft picks and rebuilding the system , then try to get Timonen to waive his no movement.

If Timonen retires we won't have to rebuild. I'm hoping he does. Also hoping we can somehow trade Briere after the season is done. If Holmgren can somehow pull that off we can probably keep. Carter, Giroux, Leino, Zherdev, Powe and Carcillo. With room to add other forwards or a good goalie.

I think between the general lack of Flyers hockey, feelings over the offseason thus far, and even the heat we're all a little on edge anymore.

something to help hold everybody over
